Posts: 3006 San Antonio, TX | I have thrown a mobile dual Band UHF-VHF radio on the back seat with a Mag Mount tied and taped into place for a ride as a Motorcycle Marshall with some bicycles. It worked but was far lees then optimal.
I need to buy a real radio for the Vision like the Yaesu FTM-10R.
The Yaesu FTM-10R dual bander operates on 2 meters and 70 centimeters. And it is just the ticket for outdoor motor sports communications! High power output is featured with 50 watts on 2 meters and 40 watts on 430 MHz.
Three power levels are available for 2M/440: 50/40, 20/20 and 5/5 watts. Very extended receive includes: 0.5-1.8 [AM band], 76-108 [FM band], 108-137, 137-174, 174-222, 300-420, 420-470, 470-800 MHz and 800-999 MHz (less USA cellular blocked).
And the FTM-10R features a rugged die cast chassis that can take punishment. Requires 13.8 VDC at 8.5 amps. 4.5 x 1.6 x 7 inches 2.9 lbs. (112x38x178mm). Your FTM-10R comes with: Mobile Mounting Bracket, Angle Adapter, Spare Fuses, Separation Cable (10 foot), DC Power Cord, Magnet, Front Panel Bracket, Speaker Cable and Hex Wrench (4/3 mm).
Please note that this radio has a built-in mic that is activated by the PTT button on top of the radio. If a conventional hand mic is desired, it must be ordered separately. The mic can also be setup for a bluetooth connection.
It is a very slick setup.....but no HF. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | okay, my thought on this is to be able to talk mainly car to car for a greater distance than CB, or even to talk home. I think I'm thinking of 2m, but I'm not sure. My brother is a ham and he's tried to get me to go 2m and might consider it for the bike. |

Posts: 1290 Ruskin, Fl | I tried to figure something out last time I was a marshall. I ended up using my HT1000 with speaker mic on 70 CM through a repeater. Not ideal while moving. Bluetooth setup used with my SENA SMH-10 would be awesome. I have an Alinco duel band I could put in the trunk. |

I have really thought that would be nice. 10 Meter FM would be cool....or 10 meter SSB. Twenty years ago I had a nice 10 Meter SSB QSO with Okinawa with 15 watts and a mag mount on the car driving in South Texas.

Posts: 52 Spokane, WA | I wonder if the stock CB's PLL could be tweaked and the rig re-tuned for the bottom half of 10M? The antenna stinks even when matched, but when 10 is open, it's open....
Somehow I doubt three of us would be enough to form an HF net, though. :-) Too bad, I just bought a new HF amp and put up improved low-band wires.
