I'm getting ready to replace my windshield with the Victory +2" windshield. Showroom models don't have the same rubber washers on the windshield bolts that my 2011 came with. Additionally, another of my concerns is that the black paint of the original windshield (which mates with the windshield bracket) has rubbed bare in several patches from 15000 miles off movement.

Any ideas during the installation to help assist in the longevity of my new windshield?

I'm thinking of either black craft foam cut to shape on the black paint/bracket area, or possibly a film of thin black rubber from an innertube.

What are your thoughts and experiences?

No rubber washers on my 08. After the first year or so I cut the original windshield down to use as a shorty so it isn't on all the time, but certainly more than 15k miles and there is no problem with the black masking rubbing through. I would have to wonder if the rubber washers could be permitting the movement that causes your wear issue. One word of caution, my after market windshield came with a warning that using too much torque on the windshield bolts could cause stress fractures.

The innertube idea doesn't appeal to me. If you want to do something like that perhaps brushing on the liquid rubber used for coating tool handles would be better.

just get the washers from your dealer that you're supposed to have. I reused mine when I replaced my shield but they're cheap.

From photos of a Vision in a crate it appears that both the windshield and trunk lid are installed by the dealer. All of my windshield gaskets looked like they were over torqued and were coming out from under the screw head. Last night I finally took them apart to see if I can fix them. The original washers had adhesive sticking them to the windshield. When tightening the screw the friction grabbed part of the washer, stretched it, and it started to bulge out on one side. I took them apart, removed the adhesive and put them back together gingerly massaging the gasket to keep it under the screw head and it looks ok.
My dealer broke some the nuts loose on the trunk hinges. I found them when I put the luggage rack on.

When I put on my 7Jurock I purchased some rubber grommets at the Home D and with a razor blade cut them so there would be only the outside of the grommet. They seemed to be slightly thicker and a little tougher than the original ones that were stuck on...

Has anyone else had the black mask rubbing off on the bracket side?

Mine was scratched up when I bought it. Didn't really bother me, as I figured the shield would soon suffer multiple pock marks and abrasions as I put the miles on. I finally ended up with a 7jurock shield and gave my stock to a buddy who's '09 had all that distortion at the top. Wow, can't believe they put crap windshields like that on them that year.

just replaced mine. the washers are supposed to be between the bracket and the windshield. The
Adhesive side sticks to the bracket so they don't side off when putting on the windshield.

Yes, mine is also rubbing off.
After seeing the post by SDVIC I called my dealer and after looking at the assembly drawing he agreed that they installed it wrong. They put the rubber washers between the windshield and screw where it should have been between the bracket and windshield. As soon as it warms up I will be bringing it in so they can fix it correctly. That includes the mask damage.

Looks like my washers were installed on the wrong side as well, causing the black masking to rub off. That also explains why all the showroom bikes didn't have the rubber washers sticking out of the bolts - they were on the correct side this time!

Rounding out this story, I stopped by my dealership this afternoon and they verified that the washers and windshield had been originally installed incorrectly when they pulled it from the crate. I was planning on having them verify, and formulating a plan and schedule for our next steps. They had a different plan in mind. They went ahead and removed the windshield, cleaned and prepped it, taped and re-painted the black masking, and reinstalled properly. I'm a very happy camper, enjoy being able to ballance some of the bad news that flows by saying that Motor-Vation in Mechanicsburg understands how to treat customers, even 8 months after the sale! I look forward to saving enough to bring some more business their way on my next bike.

Thank everyone for your comments, you helped me to find the cause of the black masking rubbing off, and the dealership took care of it all.
