I took the trunk off New Year's Eve and have had it off ever since. I've taken it off before but it never stayed off for long. I'm going to try and go as long as I can, I primarily keep the trunk on to keep my computer out of the weather. I'm going to try something different in case it rains.

I just like the way the bike handles without the trunk. I thought there was little difference but having it on for a year or more and now that it is off, I feel a difference. I had thought about selling my passenger backrest and rack at one time, but now I know I'll never part with it, the trunk on the other hand, well, only time will tell.

Who else has gone "Street" with the tour bike and stayed?

Interesting Varyder. I'm under the mindset to never take off my trunk, as you; I have a laptop and other items I frequently carry. Plus the trunk is so convenient for grocery shopping and such.

Have always wondered how the Vision would handle without it. Then again, I think the styling of the trunk completes the Vision.

I haven't had the trunk on either my '10 or the current '11. I prefer the look without it besides I think it handles better without all that weight hanging off the rear. It does feel like it rides better with it on though. I have the passenger backrest and rack for my wife. We've been as long as a month out of the road and have had no shortage of room with the side bags and a Saddlemen's Fastback bag.

Hmmm...Varyder-no trunk. Next you'll be going darkside! I never missed not having a trunk, the saddlebags have been resolutely water tight so far. I've been able to lash anything I wanted onto the rack without regard to height or width-haven't tried hauling a refrigerator yet but I might at any time LOL!

Want to take the trunk off,but 95% of the time the wife is with me.When I bought the "V" originally, I wanted the street. But the dealer told me,pass.back rest no longer available. Can anyone tell me,was their something wrong with the design, maybe a safety issue. OR did Victory, just figure out that, buy selling the Street, and the customer, only buying the back rest, that they were loosing $1100.00. Seems to me it was the $$$$$$$$$$$$. Anyone able to shed some light on this subject? Absolutely the best bike I've had under my ass, EVER !!!!!!!!!!! But P.I., I don't think they were thinking about the customer when they stopped production of the back rest, again it was all about the,$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I take mine off every fall when the gf quits riding for the year. It goes back on in the spring because her purse won't fit in the saddle bag. Why do women carry so much stuff? Well that is another topic.

The Vision definately handles better for me without the trunk. The center of gravity feels much lower. However, it rides smoother with the trunk on even when the shock pressure is increased to the recommended amount. I suppose this is due to the extra weight like riding 2 up. I like the extra speakers the trunk provides.

The difference in handling is not huge, but it is noticeable. If I was going to take the riding test at the BMV, I would go without the trunk.

The day I brought the bike home after looking at the bike for a hour thinking that this is all mine. When I caught my breath the trunk came off because of looks and getting my leg over this big hunk of beauty.
I put the lap top in a T bag and strap it to the seat. Now I have a smaller computer so it even works better.
Genny Craig just told me you lost 50 pounds not 40.

The reason they quiet selling the passenger back rest was for failure and no more street bikes.

Yes my trunk is for sale

trunk is almost never on. only when the wife goes or a long trip. I think the trunk destroys the look of the vision. but when you need the space its good to go. the bike handles so much better without the trunk!

Thw thing I like the most about the vision is the standard option to convert from tour to street, albeit, I've spent most of the time in the tour configuration. Lately it has been bothering me to tote the trunk and was looking for the opportunity to remove it pending the weather. Given that I'm adapting without the trunk, most likely it will stay off, at least for several more weeks. The minus is no continual power outlet, no rear speakers, or no large area to secure my helmet and gear. The later is what I have to adapt too as I visit the jail and prison weekly and I have to secure my items, at the jail I can do that, at the prison I cannot. I do have a lock for the helmet so that is fine.

As far as any chance of me going darkside anytime soon is highly unlikely, I cringe at the thought of physically doing it despite all the lauding of how great it is. There are only two reason why I would go darkside and I would have to be both at the same time. However, if you ask my wife, she would be miffed that I wouldn't make the move given those two things as consideration.

Is there any chance a fellow could get the spec on the backrest or maybe find one somewhere. I hear they are hard to find.

Good luck on trying to find one. Polaris for whatever reason, business or otherwise, simply discontinued them with no warning or alternative. As for me, I think it sucks big time. They just left the guys with 8 Balls and those that don't want to run with the trunk nowhere to go. Nobody seems to know who was originally making them either that I've heard. At least if we knew where they came from maybe we could all get together and have a bunch run off. Will at Cycleops has been threatening to make one but nothing yet.

I only have my trunk on in the winter to store my full face. Otherwise it goes into the closet for the rest of the year. Like the looks and better handling without it. And yes, there is a difference with that extra 40 pounds on the back of the bike especially because it sets up so high.

The real tragedy here is the MILLIONS of lones that are unnecessarily slain every year.

Took my trunk off as well...but lucky to find the passenger back rest....my wife and daughter ride with me often so the backrest is great to have. Rarely use the trunk...in fact, doubt I will ever use it again. The wife doesn't do long trips so I will keep it off until she decides to take one with me.

I love the way it feels and handles (and looks) without the trunk!

+1

It looks more "spatially" balanced...symmetrical.
