Took an all day ride with some friends yesterday. Most roads 55 or 65 mph. Getting dark and cold coming home we hit the turnpike and settled in, 6th gear 83mph@ about 3100 to 3300 rpm. My bikes sweet spot. That point where you "feel" that motor running at what seems to be it's optimal point, strong and smooth. Puts a grin on my face just thinking about it, lol.
Have you felt your Vision's sweet spot? Do you know what it is?

Yep, mine is right about the same speed. It just seems to sort of settle in and feel "right" at about 80 to 85.

Same here. Rolling down the road with mind on traffic and scenery it's not unusual to look down to see I'm running 85 mph.

I find my sweet spot is 5th gear at 55mph on back roads at around 2300 rpm. Although, my sweet spot here in upstate NY would be riding weather at any speeds

From the time I turn the key, any road, any speed, it's like eating cream cheese cake, it's all sweet.

I agree with the 2800, much above 3000 I get vibrations in the floorboards that annoys me although mine isn't even broken in yet with 1400 mi.

Try running those speeds in Washington State and I GUARANTEE you will very shortly be having a roadside chat with a person driving a white Crown Vic and wearing a powder blue Mr. Ranger hat who will present you with a piece of light green paper with a serious number on it. And May/June/ July are worst because May is when the academy graduates it's new crop of troopers.

Just giving a heads up if you're headed this way-

I agree. The motor seems to purr effortlessly in 5th gear at 50~55mph around 2500rpm. Although, it is very easy to accidently run 80mph when I think I'm only going 70 on the interstate.

Slower speeds on wavy roads is fun, but the tranny make a lot more noise in lower gears.

CCHRISTO-
Lots more folks! lots more rude, dumb drivers If you've been away from Marysville for 10 years you wouldn't recognize the place, the roads are worse, especially the wagon ruts in the Freeways from studded tires on dry paving.

What's your hwy posted speed? Ours is 75. If I'm running 80-83 our troopers won't turn a head. At 80 you'll be passed constantly by cages. Just sayin, if you're headed this way.

On the Intersates it's 60 in congested areas, like anywhere fom Olympia the State Capitol to North of Arlington ( about 80miles) then 70 to Mt. Vernon, back to 60 to North of Bellingham, then 70 again. Same (60) going East until the tops of the mountain passes then mostly 70 but no higher until you get close to Spokane. Maximum posted is 70 MPH. Staters will generally allow you 64/74 unless traffic is thick and the Freeways ARE our major North/South and East West to/from Seattle due to topography, at it's widest point in metro Seattle it's only 4 miles and a city block between Puget Sound (salty) and Lake Washington(fresh). I-5 up to Canada is crowded all day, every day with container haulers and Canadian truckers only seem to be comfortable when they cannot see your car over the radiator shell and since every Canadian has to carry 'no fault 'insurance, no worries EH? and it seems our WSP is hesitant to pull speeding cars with British Columbia plates, it can get really exciting @ times.
Riders are allowed to use the Carpool lanes, but most jerk whistles in cages seem to think the Carpool lane is the Autobahn and tailgate if you are doing the posted limit as they want to go 80 or more so you always keep one Vulcan squinty on the mirror.
Our pretty much worthless Governor now wants to cut back highway improvements to 'maintenance only' for the next 10 years on roads due to budget problems on roads where it's legal to run studded tires from Nov 1 until Mar. 31st and right now we are having our first snowfall since last year (about 2-4 inches) so carbide tipped studs on dry pavement make the Interstates look like the Oregon trail with horroble rutting to the tune of around $10 Million a year in damage.

Completely different world where you are. Life is so slow here where I live..........except the speed limits, lol.
In and around the Tulsa, Oklahoma area, I can be anywhere throughout the city in 15-20 minutes.
There's typical rush hour traffic but nothing like the major cities. I love this area. Come on down and rip up some turnpike with us!!

I couldn't wait to get out of Washington last year!

The roads are really torn up by the studded tires.

Some sections are gouged almost 2" deep in places.

Yeah, SYNSTR's right. There's no income tax in WA state, so major revenue is realized from the highways, and while out of state plates are a delicacy for them, the Washington State Patrol doesn't hesitate to eat their own...but remember, it's for the children, after all. Not yours, of course, but theirs. And the bureaucrats. And the elected officials kids, too. But not yours. Still, if you can get outta town, and you know the area, you can be rewarded with some of the best views and scooter roads you're likely to ever run across anywhere on the planet. From Chinook Pass over the central Cascade Mountains in the summer, to the Olympic Peninsula in the far west nearly any time, to the Okanogan in the east, the terrain is spectacular.

Saw this post and did a ride this past weekend down to San Diego with the wife... I figure cruising on the freeway 75-80 was the ideal range for me... it just feels good....

Sure does and the Enterprise is looking mighty good too. Have you been getting a lot of comments on the new luggage rack?

The 'three passes' is a great day trip, Snoqualimie East to Blewett, North and back West via Stevens or up to Washington Pass and back South via Hwy 9 (twisty and 'interesting' in places). Hurricane Ridge is a great Summer ride but you need to plan to avoid the Ferry Fees or Tolls on the Narrows Bridge which means down I-5 to Olympia and around the end of Puget Sound to the Penninsula. Another beautiful ride with a serious lesson in just how you stack up vs. Old Mother Nature is south on I-5 from Seattle and over to Mt. St. Helens, it's been 32 years but the awesome power of nature unleashed is still awe inspiring, it's a fabulous road, and the road across where Spirit Lake used to be (now full of what used to be part of the mountain)to the viewpoint is nice and steep and twisty, it's a National Park so be prepared to pay to get into the visitors center.

Heading west on 16 to Gig Harbor has no tolls on the Narrows Bridge. Just eastbound toward Tacoma. Like Hotel California, we're "programmed to receive", but it costs $4 to leave. Unless you have a "Good to Go" sticker, then it's currently $2.75. Another ravenous push for revenue by the benevolent state.

Hot Rod likes to travel @ 75-80 mph. Twister on the other hand likes 80-90 mph but not many places you can maintain this speed for long without getting "lit up". Also at these speeds, even on the freeway any deer or mispiloted cages come on so quick that you have less of a chance of out maneuvering them. Don't normally have my Lady on my bikes so I don't get the tap on the shoulder and a point at the speedo, poor girl is normally in the "chase vehicle" for a reason.....life is good!!!!

Forgot one "sweet spot" at these speeds, fantastic throttle roll on's. A big surprise for the cages or any other brand of bike. The crotch rockets even get a bit surprised but do have the upper hand after 100 mph or so.
