I just installed the wind deflectors. I wish I'd had them last week on our trip to North Carolina but better now than never. They installed in just a few minutes and I think they look great. I'll test it tonight or tomorrow and report back. By the way, it was thought that the mounting brackets were chrome but they're black plastic instead. I actually think the black looks better anyway (of course I have a black bike). Just letting you know.

How big of a PITA was the install? How sturdy does the black plastic brackets seem? Are they are they adhesive mount or drilled? Do they blow some of the heat off of your ankles? (My dealer knows none of the answers to these questions. I am hesitant to order with no info from them...)

The install was butt-simple. Took me 10 minutes. It uses that 3M adhesive. I took the bike out for a ride tonight and got it up to 95. I was shocked at how much they blocked the wind. I turned them inside all the way and the wind was diverted alongside the engine and around. I'm very happy with them and they look great IMO.

So, my promised follow-up... The deflectors are tal and start down by the front tip-overs and come about 4 inches shy of the wind deflectors under the mirrors. This weekend I found that wind would hit my leg and go up my chest into my face. I could block the wind by positioning my feet and legs in a certain way to block the wind but it was a weird position and I like to move around so that wouldn't work long term. The wind deflectors block all the wind. At 95 MPH during my test tonight my pants hardly even flapped when the deflectors were turned all the way out. When turned all the way in, the wind was routed along the engine and around the inside of my legs disipating all the heat. All I can say is that they look great and work better than I would have ever expected. It's a must buy IMO.

They look good for cool air riding, how good do they help with hot temp riding? ET

I ask the question while you are writing the answer. My bad.

Thanks for the picts and follow up.

Also, did you have to drill side panels to install them, or was it completely with the 3M tape?

Thanks,

Tim

Just turn in the deflectors and the wind is directed between your legs and the engine keeping the heat off your legs. Seems to work great.

Just 3M tape. Took total of 10 minutes. Couldn't have been simpler.

Hi fergy thanks for all the great info in the past few days.
I was wondering how the deflectors adjust? Do we have to unbolt them to change the angle of deflection or can you grab them and adjust them like the upper deflectors?
the hot days are here and getting hotter so I want these just wondering if I need to keep a socket handy to adjust them for night, rain, cold riding.
thanks again. MotoMarc

You're welcome. To adjust them, you just turn them where you want them to go. There are set screws at the mounting points which can be tightened or loosened to control the tension. Mine were set fine from the factory no no adjustment was necessary.

Not really. It's not like this item has a high demand and they're making 100,000 of them and selling them at Walmart. The demand for these is probably less than 1000 and to make it even worth going to the trouble to make them for such a small demand I figure $229.95 is a fair price. Besides, you paid over $20K for your bike. $229.95 is a drop in the bucket.

Uh, not even close...

I think that the significant heat problem around the ankles on the Vision should have prompted the addition of the wind deflectors being a stock addition, not an option. If for no other reason than to save a bunch of lost sales due to the heat issue. I know that when I test rode in southern Michigan last Fall, there were people complaining about it. I did not feel it at the time, but do now...But I do hear you on the cost relative to the demand. However, that is short term thinking on Polaris' part. Make more now, grow slower, not smart...If I were them, I would just try to get by and get the name out more by selling more bikes, accessories, and making more happy customers. The rest will follow later.

I saw these on the Victory Demo Tour Bike, and while it may fit in better on the black bikes, it still looked to me to be kinda bugly lookin and klugy. At least the little triangular wings under the turn signals look like they belong, but these others look like they have been taped on. Maybe this summer once I ride more in higher temps it will begin to look a little better to me, but as I recall, it looked like a home workshop special when I saw them! The hair on my legs would have to spontaneously combust before I would even give a moment's consideration to paying that much for something that looks like that.

Since Kevin "Fergy" did such a great job mounting the lower wind deflectors on his Vision I had him mount them on my Vision this afternoon and WOW are they sweet!! Like Kevin I wished we had them for our trip to Maggie Valley, NC. They do an awesome job of blocking the wind from your legs even if you have you legs extended with your boots part way on the highway pegs. If you turn the deflectors inward they send the air around the engine to move the hot air off the engine and off of your inner leg and thigh and back out towards the rear saddlebags.

It is obvious Victory spent a lot of time working on these in the wind tunnel or on a very sophisticated computer wind tunnel simulator to achieve this level of functionality. I think they look fine but like I have said all along when you are touring and ride the miles Kevin and I do function is much more important than form. Function should always lead form. If you plan to use your Vision as bar hopper then don’t waste your money or time on them unless the bars are a few hundred miles apart.

Notice how much cleaner my Vision is than Fergy’s Vision!

Yes, they come with a template to put on the fairing to mark so you can get them placed perfectly. Very easy install and the directons are good.

Well I may have spoken too soon on the success of the lower wind deflectors. I went for a ride this afternoon and while ridding south on IH-35 in Dallas into a 20 mph wind gusting to 30 mph at 70 mph the right lower wind deflector blew off my Vision and skidded across the freeway into the right ditch. I pulled over, walked back to retrieve the deflector and noticed the deflector separated from the 3M tape where it attaches to the deflector mounting bracket. I would have thought the tape would have separated from the fairing but it held there. The deflector got scratched up some when it hit and skidded across the payment.

I was only a few miles from my dealer so I rode over there and had their service techs look at it and they felt from their experience the 3M tape will not hold that big of a deflector catching that volume of wind in this kind of heat and humidity. One thing we noticed Victory needs to do is rough up the back side of the mounting bracket before putting the 3M tape on it. The back side of the mounting bracket is smooth polished paint.  The tape that was still on the fairing pulled off easy and left no marks of residue. We tried to pull the left deflector off and it came off without much pulling and separated in the same way leaving the tape on the fairing. My dealer refunded my money and will send them back to Victory and see if they can come up with a better mounting method.

Another issue I discovered before it blew off is that even with the four set screws tightened to the max when you have the deflector turned most of the way inward towards the engine they work great but between 70 and 80 mph the force of the wind is great enough to force them to turn outward and will not stay positioned inward at higher speed.

They really do a great job at blocking the air when they are turned outward and they stay in that position really well. They also do a great job when they are turned inward if they could stay there at higher speeds. I am hoping they get these issues fixed and I will get another set. My guess is they will work great further north where it is not as hot. It was about 97 degrees with 70% humidity in Dallas this afternoon when it came off.

Thanks for the test and posting the results. I was looking at them on the tech forum and thought to myself, "can I bolt them on" and remembered this thread and saw spocks post. Argh. Do these things look like you can modify, and nicely bolt them to the fairing for a permanent solution. I've never known sticky stuff to stick for extended periods on exposed items and with the amount of force subjected to on the highway. So, it is certainly a pay me now or later. Bolting them on would be the best solution, or wear asbesto chaps, but they would cost more than the wind jamer.

That's a bummer. I'll test it out on Monday (I'm at the track tomorrow) and see if the same happens to mine. My guess is that it will. They seemed pretty sturdy up to 95 MPH in both positions when I last tested it but the temp was in the low 90s.
