Posts: 444 Bay of Gigs, WA | YAYHEYHEY FOR GERBING'S!! Hybrid gloves, Extreme Weather coat, insoles, combining with heated grips and seat, equals a true winter dreadnought! All you need then is a dry-ish day. You guys and gals with these and other brands know what I mean! How in the world did I think it was wussy to use the tech? Now it's cold beer in the winter, too, instead of hot buttered rums. Too bad the world ends this year, I'd sure like to get a few more under my belt now that I'm weather indifferent. Hmmm-got 'till next December at least. Maybe these items will even repel asteroids, who knows? |

Posts: 1365 Central Maryland | Gerbing heated gear is GREAT. Let's me ride during dry, winter conditions here in Maryland. Because of that, I never winterize my bikes.... |

Posts: 763 Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | The Vision is cold weather friendly as we all know. Many people have posted in this forum that they regularly ride in 20 deg temp without heated gear. I am one of those people.
Anyone know the lower limit WITH heated gear? |

| I've owned a set of Gerbings gloves and jacket and pants liners for over 10 years now. I've rarely needed them here on the IL/WI line as usually the winters are not only cold but there is too much salt and/or ice/snow on the roads. I've found that as I get older (I turn 46 this May) that my tolerance for what I considered cold has decreased, when I used to be able to ride down into the 30s wearing nothing more than my full face helmet, insulated Joe Rocket jacket with a t-shirt and sweat shirt, plus fleece lined gloves and pants, I now rely on using my Gerbings jacket and pants liners when the temps are in the low 40s in order to stay comfortable. I'm thinking of upgrading at the Chicago CycleWorld Motorcycle Show in a few weeks to the newer Gerbings microwire heated gear simply to be even more comfortable. |

Posts: 96 Princeton, IL | I have ridden the 72 miles to work when it was 18 or 19 and that was probably the lower limit for me on a long ride. I ride regularly when it is about freezing and I can ride comfortably for as long as I want. I have the gloves, pants and jacket liner by Gerbings, the micro wire version and I like them a lot. |

I don't know what the lower limit is yet. We've ridden (the wife and I) in single digit temperatures before quite comfortably. If you knew my wife, you would know what that means. We have Warm-N-Safe (Firstgear) heated gear. Full-face helmets required in those temperatures.
As someone else mentioned, our tolerance for cold has greatly diminished as we've gotten older. I rode bikes with no windshield in freezing temperatures when I was a much younger man. Now, the heated gear goes on when the temperatures are expected to be below 40.

Having tried their external jackets, I found the leather jacket and liner to be the most effective. |

| I bought my first heated vest some forty years ago. It was every where with me. Mater of fact was in Ca. one winter and the guys out there were amazed I could ride all day with just a heavy nylon jacket on. Never told them about the vest. I out grew the vest and went to a jacket with heated collar and sleeves. Now I thought this was the cats pajamas. My bike was stolen with the jacket in side. So I went out and bought a new and improved one. Now with the great charging system the vision has I'm like toast ever time I use it. Sorry I will laugh in your face for not riding as early as I start or ride father into the season then you do. I have 12 other riders in the neighborhood and they quiet for winter and I'm still going strong.
