Posts: 1365 Central Maryland | In all of my years or riding motorcycles... I have NEVER used a backrest for myself. Since I've had the Vision last year; I thought that maybe it'll be a nice addition. So I just ordered a Utopia backrest.
I know I've stated before that I was going to make one, rather than purchase it... but after analyzing the time for designing, gathering materials and putting one together from scratch; I'd rather just cough up a little extra money to a company that seems to know what they're doing, and already has designed what I want.
Hope it's comfortable. We'll see....

Comes with the bracket:
https://www.utpr.com/vision2010installation.html
I added a bar cover to my order; so subtract $18.00 from the total amount below:
Vision Utopia Driver Backrest $215.00 X 1 = $215.00
(Vis-10FL) (Do You Have A Slit in Your Seat?: YES, I DO HAVE A SLIT IN MY SEAT.)
(BCL) Bar Cover $18.00 X 1 = $18.00
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Product Total $233.00
Shipping (1 Backrest with or w/o Opti) $14.00
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Grand Total $247.00

| Trekwolf,
I just bought an original factory Victory Backrest complete with bracket inlike new condition. Problem for me is thought it would bolt onto stock heated seat on my '08 Vision, wrong. I have to go with a Utopia backrest, so, am willing to sell backrest for what I bought it for $170 plus shipping. It has the Victory embroidered on back plus cool little zipper puch on back for passenger use i.e. cell phone, camera, etc. email if interested pcnova54@yahoo.com.
Peace |

Posts: 57 Kansas City, MO | Do these remove/attach fairly easy without tools (after the bracket has been installed of course)? And if so, how?
I found something that said the Victory model is easily removable, but couldn't find anything on the Utopia that said if it does. |

Peace Not sure I understand this correctly that the backrest and bracket wont work for you. Is that b/c you dont have the "slit" already cut in your seat like the newer seat or is it something to do with the underside and fitment? I've had my Vic backrest on a few different seat and all worked beautifully. If it's that you dont have the slit, then Utuopia wont work for ya either...since you need to cut the seat for either to work. Also, to those thinking Utopia is alot cheaper.....keep in mind that at that price it is locked in there and is NOT a quick disconnect backrest. That QD mount adds another sum onto your total which puts it somewhere in the $300 range which is similar to the Vic amount. Still is cheaper by a small margin, but then the only main difference is the size and I like the sleeker look of the Vic unit (plus I bought mine used and got a helluva deal on it). Additionally, glad mine is QD as my wife is another of those that says she feels slightly crowded by it. So, when solo its on and when 2up it is off and stored in saddlebag. Easy as pie.....

Will do. It's actually a very simple install, but took I some pictures while I did it. I post something in the next couple of days in that section for it.
Too late for me to try it out but just sitting on the bike; I can tell that my comfort level is going to be elevated by it.

One thing I just noticed with the Victory backrest that I just put on my 8-Ball (it's incredible- very comfortable), if you have it pulled up so that there is a 1" gap between the seat and pad, you can fold it down to throw your leg over. Then fold it back up as you sit back. Don't know if the Utopia is like that but it probably is. This the first time I've used a backrest and it really makes you feel like you're a part of the bike, more attached so to speak. |

Yes, the Utopia's mechanism has that ability, but I want to keep the backrest as low as possible.... so that it doesn't contact a higher region of my back; I like the support mid to low on my back.
I have resigned myself to stepping on the left passenger footrest with my left foot; and lifting my right foot over the seat and back down. Kind of like stepping up; and into the bike.... rather than swinging a leg way up high and over. Am a little concerned about the momentary strain on the side stand though. I need to practice doing it from the right side of the bike; since there's less strain on the side stand but the bike could start leaning over to the right if not careful.... |

I know of the pin you are talking about. Like a safety pin lock. That is a great idea; it would work for the Utopia, I think Lowes carry's those pins in the specialty hardware cabinets; I must go look sometime later today.
An example:

I have the same problem...... but the utopia that I used just a few times and is sitting on the shelf is a great addition. I have thought about taking the seat of and taking the lip off of the back of the seat, giving her more room. Has anyone tried that? |

I did two things to increase the backseat comfort. Added the footrest extensions and cut the lip off the back of the seat. I still need to remove the backrest when riding two up, but no more complaints from the wife.
The removal was pretty simple, but you have to build it up and extend it further back with good quality foam or else you would end up with a rather large and unattractive gap between the back of the seat and the trunk.
The hardest part is reupholstering the back of the seat. I did it myself, but it would be a good idea to have a professional do it if you're not handy with a sewing machine. I separated the rear upholstery from the front and reused the front half. I used the rear upholstery as a starting point pattern and modified the new material to fit. I don't have any pics of the finished product, but it looks good and you really can't tell until you start really looking.
Here's some pics of the back seat lip removal.
