Posts: 40 South Central Pennsylvania | My new Vision is ready for her first set of replacements - tires and brakes. I'm sticking with the OEM E3s, as I've gotten more acquainted with the bike now, and more opt to push the machine closer to her capabilities rather than holding back to mine. That being said, I would like to better evaluate what the OEM tires can do. Brakes, however, offer more choices than available answers. What are your recommendations and findings on brake pads - which ones most closely represent OEM brakes, do you recommend organic versus scinted metal, what brake pads should I stay away from as they do accelerated wear to rotors, or worse, don't stop well, etc. In short, I'm seeking the wisdom of those who have gone before me to guide me more intelligently in selection of brake pads. (I don't much care for the double price of dealership pads)

Posts: 752 Broken Arrow, OK | Not sure about double pricing dealers but OEM brakes run 64 bucks straight out of the parts catalog. The OEM sets from the dealers include the extra pieces to do a quality replacement, not just 2 pads. For the 2011.......
KIT-PAD SET,2POT,REAR ([Incl. Pads, Insulator, Spring, Retainer, Pin Hanger, Stopper Ring] )
2203679 $64.08
KIT-PAD SET,3POT,SE7 ([Incl. Pads, Retainers, Spring, Pin Hanger, Stopper Ring] )
2204195 $64.08 X 2
As you know, most all other non OEM pads are much cheaper online. I haven't changed mine yet but would probably go with some EBC HH Sintered for about half what OEM's are.

Posts: 40 South Central Pennsylvania | I should correct my terminology. It is more accurate to refer to internet's "half price" pads that I've found compared to the dealer's retail price instead of referring to dealer's "double-price." I have also found multiple references to EBC brakes as being very "squeaky," which can happen to any brake installation if we don't properly use the clips/shims/brake grease. I would guess that this is further enhanced by the scintered metal, which in my mind, says copper would help to contribute to vibration more than non-metalic friction surfaces. The additional components in the kit do make me feel a little better on the value, but when I replace pads on my cars and trucks, I always reuse those parts and only replace the pads. I appreaciate and thank you for your input. I should expect to not go too cheap on the stopping power of a 20K machine weighing half a ton (which it does when I'm the saddle), but $65x3 is still more than I have paid to put brakes on any other vehicle.

I am currently using EBC pads on my '08 Tour Premium with no "squeaking". I used them on my Royal Star Venture and my Kawasaki Voyager XII with very good results.
My question is why you are needing brake pads at the first tire change. My OEM pads went 30K miles before they needed changing. I tend to ride agressively and 75% is two up.
