Posts: 102 Cary, NC | Went to the dealer on Friday because my belt sounded like a Banshee again. Had it in two weeks earlier for the 5000 mile service. They adjusted the belt and that lasted about 3 days. Put belt dressing on it this time and they have ordered a new pulley for the wheel. Love the bike and right now I don't need loud pipes to be heard as I go down the road. |

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | i cant speak for your dealer. but when i had a kawasaki that was belt drive, the dealers were clueless aboutwhat to do with belt noise or even how to adjust the belt.. it was shocking to be honest. |

Posts: 77 Bainville, & Mesa, AZ, MT | I have fought with two Vics having the same proplem, a Kingpin and a Vision. The one thing I have learned is do not use belt dressing, the belt needs lubrication not something that is going to make it grip more. Also, I now adjust my own belts and do not pay much attention to the marks on each side but rather look at how the belt is tracking in the pulley. It takes some time spinning the wheel both directions and making very small adjustments on the tension bolts to get it right.
I also carry a bar of soap and when the belt goes to sqealing use it on the belt. I have heard of some using a few drops of oil to get the same result. I would think most any lubricant would work.
I feel Vic has some quality issues here as there seems to be a lot of guys having the same problem, and then there is some that never do. At any rate there is room for improvement.

Fountain Inn, SC United States | I've noticed that the Vision belt likes to be a little looser than you'd expect. Especially when the belt & bike are cold. The pulleys will expand in use and tighten the belt. If the belt is too tight and not aligned, it will squeal.

Posts: 444 Bay of Gigs, WA | According to specs, the belt should travel up and down about 1.5". I keep a can of silicone spray in the right saddlebag, and I use it every so often when I hear that first suspicious squeak. I tried belt dressing, but that made it hot and was the wrong way to go. Now, it's getting so I don't need to spray it so often. I only shoot the portion of the belt visible between the pulleys on the bottom, since the front and rear are of differing sizes, the belt lands on different parts of the pulleys each revolution, eventually lubing everything. Works for me. The belt resolutely resides on the outside of the pulley, though I haven't really messed with it since the weather went kaput for the season. I'll fool with it again when it warms up. |

There is more than enough data in previous posts to do the alignment a adjustment properly. |

| I think all the pulleys are machined wrong. They don't appear to have a straight inside edge.
Keep in mind if you spray or put on some kinda chemical it will gather and fold dirt on the belt that will cause extra wear shorting the life of the belt |

Posts: 216 Danville, CA | The newer pully will fit current models. The teeth are just different angles I guess.. Call Arlen Ness Service dept and ask them directly or call Victory direct. They can explain. Cost alot and is BS totally, but fixes the problem... |

Posts: 123 NE Florida Jacksonville | My 2010 Vision began to produce a howl in turns that I was convinced came from the drive belt. After I several attempts to play with the belt adjustment I gave up and continued to ride and put up with the howl it made in turns. After I wore out the rear tire and put a new one on it the howl disappeared and turns are nice and quite again. I went back and checked the belt and it tracked the same as prior to the tire change. I believe the howl was produced by the worn center of the rear tire. A new tire is nice and quiet, I have almost 3,000 miles on the new tire and it is still quiet. I went back and checked my logbook and noticed that after about 5,000 miles an entry I made mentioned a low howl in turns and thus began my efforts to play with the belt. As the mileage increased on the tire I made more log entries of the howl noise in turns. Now from this reflection and comparing my notes I'm convinced the design of the Dunlop E3 just happens to become noisy once you wear down the center tread to a dept of 1/3 less than the side wall tread. When the bike rolls into a sweeping turn more of the un-used side wall tread comes in contact with the road and the howl begins. I'll just live with the sound, and watch the tread life and tire pressure from this point on. Hope this helps those who may be chasing thier tails trying cure the sound. |

Posts: 337 san antonio, tx | I noticed my belt chirping for the first time yesterday. I pulled out of the garage into a light rain. It chirped a bit after running through a couple of puddles. It chirped for a couple of miles and then nothing. It's been ridden in the rain many times since I got it, but this is the first time the belt has chirped.
The howling from the tires becomes much more apparent after I've done a long haul on the super slab, say 2-400 miles or more. Then, after a few days of more routine town or country road riding it seems to dissipate but never really goes away. It doesn't bother me. I can tell where I am on the tire while I'm leaning!
Just clicked 10,000 miles, BTW. |

Posts: 101 Springfield, TN | I forgot all about the belt noise about 30,000 miles ago. Best cure? Ride it more!!! Tire howling after 6-8,000 miles? I haven't figured that out yet... The E-3 Dunlop is prone to cupping and all three I've worn out have done the same thing. I've got about 8,000 on number four and it's starting to howl in turns. I watch air pressure closely. I believe most of my problem is weight. We ride 2 up 80% of the time and my wife doesn't understand "pack light"... We are always overloaded. I also ride hard on the throttle out of the turns... I have to say I'm satisfied with the handling, ride, and mileage I get so I'm willing to put up with a little howling. Sorry... didn't mean to change directions again! |

Posts: 102 Cary, NC | Took the bike in yesterday and got it back today. The dealer installed a new rear pulley and belt. Everything sounds great right now. Hopefully it will stay that way. Also got a new rear tire because mine went flat on the way back from Daytona and was cupped. Great job by my dealer (Twin Specialties) in Raleigh. Good price for the tire. $253.00 total. |
