XM install issue

I just installed my XM, everything is pluged in, turned on the radio and XM is not recognized, am I missing something? There are 2 versions out there....one for '08+'09 and one for '10 and up. 1st Id make sure I have thre right version. Thanks all Unfortunately, that probably kills my idea of trying to patch in a non-Vic XM tuner.
