Sierra Vista, AZ United States | I have had my 2011 vision since Nov. 2011, soon after purchasing it I noticed the loud clack of shifting into 1st, but was told it was normal. 5000 miles later I still have the LOUD clack of shifting into 1st and am having second thoughts about it being normal. Any body else experience this? Also off the showroom floor the rear brakes were defective and allowed off the floor. So the seeds of doubt were sown...

| The shift into first is particularly loud as well as some of the other gears from time to time. Its just a noisy, crunchy shifting transmission. The 2010 shifted better but was really whiney so this one is much better in that regard. Mine is one of the first of the new transmissions so maybe later ones are better. I hope so anyway. Mine also hits a false neutral between 5th and 6th and locks up sometimes while downshifting if I'm not deliberate about it enough. I'm looking forward to riding a new one at the demo rides in two weeks just to see if they improved it at all. The rest of the bike is so nice I've just accepted it :-)

Chattanooga, TN | There can also be a normal clack from rapid unloading/decelleration of the torque compensator. Don't know how model specific it is, my bike is a 2008. I've heard it a dozen times or so and it happens when backing off the throttle and releasing the clutch in first gear. I thought it was the kickstand the first few times. |

san antonio, tx | I describe mine more as a solid, I'm absolutely in gear, gratifyingly decisive "clunk". It clunks a little louder than my 04 Kingpin did, but not by very much. It's a very robust transmission.
What was wrong with the brakes? I'm assuming they fixed them right away.
So, since the seeds where sown 4 months and 5000 miles ago, what has sprouted? |

Sierra Vista, AZ United States | Thanks all for the quick feedback! I feel better. It is really louder than a gratifying clunk though. I love the bike otherwise, in spite of early brake problem, Victory made it right. At first I thought the brakes were just a little spongey and I use my front brakes more anyway but they became non-existant. They had to replace the rear master cylinder. Pretty inconvenient as I was on a road trip. I left the Seattle area with a motorhome and 2008 Goldwing 1800 trailered until Vegas,visited a Victory dealership and left with a Vision. No regrets. So two road trips from Yuma to Lake Havasu later to resolve the issue. Crossed the country to Washington DC using the Vision for my dinghy and am loving it, heading home now. By the way, riding in DC is scary! |

Bay of Gigs, WA | My '08 has always clunked it's brains out. I read they designed it that way so it'd feel like one from the Motor Company, be a Real Man's trans. That may be the case, but the elegance of the old Matchless gearbox in my Norton Commando, while not as strong, certainly sends me snickety-snick down the highway, and smooth as butter. But then, I've never bent a layshaft on the Vic, either. So it IS strong. The clunk annoys me from a finesse standpoint, and except for 5th and 6th, so does the whine. Boohoo. Image over function, right? Maybe I'm just gettin' old. I did inherit a Buick LeSabre awhile back, a big sausage looking thing...I thought I was 30 years too young to drive it, but it's a helluva piece of equipment, so I commute in it.
The wife loves the Vic, hates the Buick.

San Antonio, TX | The 4th gear whine is a feature.....I never wonder what gear I am in when I am in 4th! In fourth I can give it a twist and be on the high side of 80 in a blink.

New Bohemia, VA | The first gear clunk and the 4th gear whine is louder than most bikes that I know, I don't know if it is common across all Vic's. If it does bring you some concern, have the tech at the dealer or someone who has a Vision take your bike for a spin to see what they think. |

Akron Ohio area | You don't need a visual gear indicator to know when you are in first gear.
All the gears are clunky, but first has it's own unique clunk.
Almost 27,000 miles and I haven't yet missed a gear change.
I do have the heel-toe shifter, so that might make a difference as to why I don't miss gear shift changes. |

It takes getting used to, but soon you'll know when a new noise shows up and is a problem.

Cicero, Indiana | I asked that about the vision I just bought and the reason I was told its because American bikes they copie the HD that are noisy. My metric is like a sewing machine and I guess from what I have been told they are starting to make certain metric that way for the sound. |
