Hi everyone,
I've been reading your forums for several days now and I have become very interested in purchasing a Victory Vision. I have my eyes set on a 2008 Vision Tour Premium with just over 14k miles and I wanted to hear some opinions.

I currently ride a Vulcan 900 and have been looking to get something that can better handle occasional long trips both 1 up ad 2up. I love the looks of the Vision, but as yet have not had the chance to ride one.

The bike is in great shape, but I am not sure what would be a fair offer. They cost more than I was originally going to spend, but I have a feeling that If I buy the Vision, I will not be looking to trade it anytime in the near future. Finally...is it possible to get a really good deal if you can find a leftover 2010 or 2011? or is it not that much of a discount?

Ok. So now it's time to convince me to buy and help me come up with a fair offer. The Vulcan forums have been good to me this past year, so don't let me down.

Thanks.

There are some realy good deals on left over 2010-2011 right now and I think a fair offer on the 2008 would be around 10-12,000 just my 2 cents.

I moved from a Kawi to a Vision, best thing I ever did. 14k on an 08, it isn't even broken in yet! What are they asking for it?

Do not ride the Vision unless you're ready to buy it! Trust me! If you ride it you will buy it. I bought mine in May '08 and broke it in riding 2 up from Nashville to Yellowstone and back. You can't do that with your Vulcan and be able to walk when you get home! Shop around you will find the right Vision for you!!!

I agree with Mike, unless you're ready to buy don't ride it. I rode mine for about half an hour and then took it home.

NADA.com lists the bike as having a retail price in the range of $9,835 to $12,940, depending on condition and mileage. !4k miles seems about average for a 4yr old bike.

When I brought my 08 Vision TP home for the test ride with the Mrs. we had gone about 1 block from our house and she give me a big hug and says " I love this bike" [good thing because I had already purchased the bike LOL]

As mentioned above - don't ride unless you are seriously ready to buy - you will love the bike

From my last issue of Motorcycle Consumer News, a 2008 Vision premium, which is what I ride, is valued at $13,600. Of course it will depend on the condition of the bike and I think that's about what they're going for on ebay. Just my two cents.

Supply and demand will supersede NADA. A few years ago I sold a Vegas 8-ball $1500 above "book" value, because there were no other 8-balls for sale within a 300mi radius.

$14k is just a little on the high end if there are used Visions "Premiums" available in your area, but if there are not any available $14k on a bike with low miles (8k per year is average for touring bikes), then I would see what the buyer is will to take.

Before you do anything, go to a dealer and ride one. Yes I like mine, but I'm not you, and riding one will help you decide what "value" you would put on a Vision.

Bought my '08 Vision Tour Premium last December, has ~20k miles on her, had some chrome, great maintenance records, no damage, paid 12.5 for her.

Fire: My wife had a 06 Vulcan 900. Good bike for those who need a light bike or just starting out. She bought a 09 HD Street Glide and was happy with it for about year then she saw the Victory XC and couldn't let that go so she traded up to up to a 12 Cross country Tour. I own a vision and it's the best damn bike I have ever rode. I ride the wife's XCT damn good bike but it's no vision. You will find after getting a vision how inadequate that Vulcan 900 is. I used to own a Vulcan Nomad and when I bought my vision it was like day and night difference and never looked back. Good luck and and like everyone says don't ride or you will own it.

On a side note: I used to be one of the first folks on the vulcan 900 forums and an admin and help create some of the first mods you see on there today. So I do know allot about that bike.

I believe that there is alot of differences between an 08 and a 2010 or 11. Stereo, 6 speed tranny, heated seat and grips are some of the upgrades. That being said, With discounts added on a new bike it's hard to turn down. Although, Unlike Jedi I think 14k on a 4yr old bike is very low mileage. Especially for this type of ride.. Like everyone has said "don't ride unless your ready to buy" and I would add "Once you buy you'll want to ride" Good luck with your decision, either way 08,10,or 11 you'll be happy.

One thing is for sure, it will always have unique styling. If they change it, the '08 will still be avant garde'. The only thing my '08 needs in my opinion is a chrome front wheel for a little bling. Otherwise, it suits my and my wife's needs very well indeed. With balance shafts, it's smooth, with the Stage 1 Level 2 exhaust, it barks a bit under load but is quiet at cruise, the legroom allows one to splay out like a teenager on the telephone. Performance is on par with anything in its class, and it has more US made parts on it than a Hog. Sure, the stereo could be better, but it's a nice trade for that between the heated grips, seat and electric windshield. All in all, it's quite a package. You might shop around to take advantage of someone else's job loss and achieve a bigger discount. I know that sounds harsh, but often someone fallen on hard times is able to feel a bit better if they know their pride and joy is going to a good home.

I would go to one of the year 2010 onwards for the 2008 model seems out some models with defects in the belt. I have a vision of 2008 and I am thinking of changing it by the year 2011, precisely because it has a noise in the band and here in Spain do not know how to solve

I keep a small can of silicone spray in my saddlebag, and when my belt begins to make noise, I spray the bottom where it is exposed. The front and rear pulleys are of different size, so the silicone eventually covers all parts. A few sprays at different times, and soon, it goes quite a while without squeaking. It doesn't seem to affect the belt at all, but it sure helps my attitude!

Thanks for the input and keep it coming. I really do like the idea of a new one, but it is more than I (aka the wife) was wanting to spend. The cheapest I've seen a new one is around 16999. I don't remember the year. Ths one has the sissy bar and the tour trunk, 14000 miles and I think I can get it for under 12 with the transaction taking place in person. Originally I was only planning on suspending around 7500 on a bmw or nomad until I fell in love with the vision. For all of you 08 riders, does lack of a 6th gear bother you at highway speeds? I just did some looking and specs for 2008 show 6 gears. Can someone clarify for me?

The 2008 model has six gears and go very well, and answering rainryder I also applied silicone spray and the noise disappears for a while

I agree about owning an '08 and the extra $$. Don't care about a reverse, rode 12 years before buying the Vision without one and didn't miss it. From what I've read, the reworked tranny didn't make a big difference. Besides that, it's paid for.

Since it's a 2008 model make sure it's the "premium model" and not comfort or street for that price.

Fire: I don't know where you're located but a dealer here in Indiana recently had a new 2011 (Pearl White) VV for $17,199. More than you were looking at, I know, but it's only money!

Huh??? ALL Visions have a 6 speed tranny. ...and the '08 had the heated seat and grips as well.

I have an '08 and I love it. No way I would ever need to upgrade this bike to a newer model. I would recommend that you make sure you know what "model" it is. While the current Vision is only made to one level, the '08's had 3 levels (Premium, Tour Comfort, and Tour)....they also had a "street" model with no tour pack. I personally hate the tour pack and never used it, but your opinions may vary....I seem to be in the minority on that one, but I have the now obsolete backrest and luggage rack....only way to ride a Vision in my opnion.

Make sure it is a Premium. Te Premium has chrome bars, front tipovers, and other bling, along with the heated grips and seat, lighted side badges, and HID headlight.

I would guess that a good quality '08 Premium Vision should sell for between $10-13K....and the older ones usually have lots and lots of upgraded goodies. You woulnd't be able to fins a stripped newer model for under $15K.

I think it was in 2005, I had just finished test riding a Kawi Nomad. I believe it was a 1500 or 1600. Whatever. I really liked it, and I have had good luck with a couple of Kawasakis in the past. After having looked at it for several weeks (beautiful bike, very comfortable) I had made my decision, It was going to be mine. I told the sales guy that I'd be back the next day with the money.

Well, on the way home, I noticed something I had never saw before. A Big Dog dealership. As I was pulling in, I noticed the Victory sign. I really was not familiar with the brand and didn't really give it a second though. I went in the store and looked at the bling-bling Big Dogs for a bit until I turned a corner and (cue the beams of light and angels from heaven) there sitting on a rotating display pedastal was a two tone bronze and pearl off-white 2004 Victory Kingpin. Wow. Laced wheels, beautiul paint, a tank like no other with the seat running up in to it. I was floored. It even had Arlen Ness's signature on the fender, done with a sharpie.

Well, I never did make it back to the Kawasaki dealership. Came back the next day and bought the 'pin. Put a bunch of miles on it until one day, I crashed and it was totalled by the insurance company.

I had been toying with the idea that if I ever wore out or broke the Kingpin, I would absolutely replace it with another Vic. Probably the Cross Country. I considered myself too young for the Vision! No hurry, I planned on riding that Kingpin for a long, long time.

Well, the accident pushed me off the fence and forced a decision. After a couple of test rides, I pulled the trigger on a sight unseen Vision at a dealership in Denver. Flew over there for a business trips and took 5 days to complete the best road trip I've ever taken in my life (and I've taken a lot!)

Just around a half year later and a little over 11000 miles on my Vision, I love riding it, and I ride it a lot.

I've had a few very minor things bother me about it; nothing significant and certainly nothing worse than any of the other dozens of vehicles I've owned in my life, 2, 3, or 4 wheeled.

I apologize for any misleading info by putting 6speed in my post. I just meant that the tranny had been upgraded with helical cut gears, and i can't say if it made a difference being that i haven't riden an 08.
