Aired up my rear tire for the first time this year and when I had been riding I kept hearing a wa,wa,wa,wa sound when the bike is banked over in a turn and just figured a wheel bearing might be going in the rear. The bike is an 09 vision with 5000 miles on it and I thought it odd that the wheel bearing may be going so soon but stuff happens.

I went under to add air and ran my hand over the rear tire and its chopped like a front tire on an older 4x4 truck. HMMMMM I'm thinking thats odd. That explains the woping noise from underneath. The bike rides and handles just perfect and the tread is good. I figure at 10,000 miles the rear tire will be worn out and thats no problem, I just have never seen a tire chop like this. Ive seen tires wear really odd but not chop like this.

Anybody else have a chopped tire?

Wheel balance feels good and every thing checks out just fine. the tire is an original from victory.

Your thoughts on a new tire from possibly a different manufacturer or is the original a good replacement choice.

And lastly I want to clean up the rear wheel as its pretty nasty and It would appear that the mufflers have to come off or at least one to get the axel shaft out or will the rear axel drop enough to clear the exhaust?

Thanks Eric

Thats all the dunlop tires r good for. If u get 10,000 miles out of the tire youll b lucky. I went with a metzler when i got tired of the cupped out dunflop. Have more miles on it now than i got out of the dunlop and still no cupping. Would never buy another dunlop

41psi, 12,000-13,000 at the wear-bar. "Cupping" or wavy is normal on every E3 I've run. Great tire.

Improper tire and shock inflation is usually the culprit.

If you remove the shock and strut bolts from the swing arm, and you can jack the bike up. The tire stays on the ground. You can then slide the axle out, and you do not even have to screw with the adjusters

It's the single bolt on the right swing arm for shock-push rod that needs to be removed.

If you pull both. The tire drops WAY further, and is easier to deal with

Yup. 15k on my original set, and still going.... tire / shock pressure is the key to longevity !!!!

While I won't disagree, the one bolt has always been suffecient for me and allows the tire to drop as needed and is manageable.  The book calls for both to pull but after several times of just pulling the one bolt makes it optional for those who are mechanically inclined in my opinion.

Original rear tire wore just fine. Second rear tire cupped badly, replaced it early last season. New rear tire is cupping just as bad as the second. thinking I will run it for the life of the tire and look into another manufacturer next time around.

I enjoy my Dunlops but they are sensitive to air pressure changes. That being said I have a compressor in my garage and check the air every week or so.

I guess I'm just lucky i've had good luck with Dunlop. I've only ever had one tire cup on me and that was on a previous bike(VTX). A good way to keep the back tire from cupping is to come over to the DARKSIDE. (INSTERT EVIL LAUGH HERE)
On the VTX the second time around I kept a better eye on tire pressure and varied where I rode on the rode and never had a cupping issue again.
