| Hello All , i have a 2009 Vision and thios year i needed a saftey done to register it. The mechanic says the rear brake pads are shot. I have 20,000 miles on the bike. I was wondering if they are scamming me for a 300 dollor job. Has anyone else have to replace the rear pads after only 20,000 miles? What is the average lifespan of the rear pads. Thank you all for your help. |

Anyway, just have him show you the pads if you have them do it. If they have it on a lift, you'll be able to tell without even removing them. |

| 20K miles on a set of pads is reasonable......$300 for a 15 minute job......not so much! |

Posts: 1229 Rancho Cucamonga, CA | I made the mistake of believing my service department (kind a) when they told me my brakepads needed replacing during the 15k service, so I went home after the service and ordered some off ebay (about $50 for all 3 sets). When I replaced the front tire at 17k, I popped in the new pads as well, only to find I had a good 5-10k left on them. It's just so easy to do though when the wheel is off.
If they say they need replacing at 20k, they may just be a tad overcautious like mine.
If they are charging you $300, then they are trying to scam you. |

No point in putting new pads on a pizza cutter cuz you'll just be back down there replacing the rotor and compromising your and others safety with half fast brakes. |

| 300.00 to replace rear pads? As someone else said, it takes at best 15 minutes. Is this a Victory dealer telling you this? |

No matter what you think the time would be, the dealer goes by the book time to charge labor. Ask them to itemize the cost, then ask us if that is a fair price. |

| I think I mustered 8K on the rears of my KP. The Vision is still hanging in there at 15K.
20K for new pads sounds alright. $300 sounds like too much. |

| Put you bike on the right hand tip overs. With a wrench you pull the very front pin silver in color and maybe about a 5/15" bolt head. Slide the shoes out put the new ones in. Lift the bike wash your hands and now you have time to cut the grass. |

Posts: 395 Moravia, IA | I noticed my rear pads were REAL thin one day on a pre-ride check before going to work.
Laid the bike over, grabbed a ratcheT and socket and changed them in less than 15 mins.......my uniform stayed clean......and I wasnt even late for work.
$300 for that job - FUGGIN highway robbery..... |
