| Since our VV came without the comms I have been looking for a way to not spend $1200 for a CB I would never use. We feel that being able to talk really make the miles that much better for us. I started by asking a 'winger friend who pointed me at Autocom. I didn't like the price and after talking to some others I wasn't sure that was the setup for us. I found a youtube video showing what the sound filtering did with the Starcom1 and I was really impressed. I ordered a Starcom1 Digital setup from an ebayer in the UK.
First lets talk about the bad stuff.
The cords all needed to be about a foot and 1/2 longer. The holders for the headset cables are cheesy.
Now the good stuff.... The damn thing works! I bought cables to hook up my car gps and the ipod. When listening to music the gps will cut in for directions and phone calls with my phone bluetooth connected. I haven't made a phone call at speed but non-moving calls sound great! The volume changes automatically with the noise around you. We can talk at 80+ mph and it sounds very clear. No PTT button and zero road noise. The time delay for the music to come back in and the mic sensitivity both need adjusted. We just want the music back on faster and the intake and exhaust noise it enough to trigger the mics (stage 1L2 with the backbone filter). Both of those are pretty easy to adjust.
I have a cable extension/bulkhead fitting kit on the way, we will mount the plugs where the stock vision stuff goes.
All in all I spent a little more than 500 bucks, the system has more options than we need.We can have the passenger have their own phone and their own music source all at the same time. Can also hook up an FRS radio if that is your thing.
My advice would be if you want to do this and don't need the CB this could be a great choice for you. |

| Does that $500 include headsets? Cable extensions? Where does the passenger cable attach to the bike? Got any pictures? Do you hear the factory radio through your headsets?
Thanks for posting.

| Yes it included the headsets (full face or open face available). I also bought extra cabling for the GPS wiring. I have it in the right saddlebag in the small cubby. The cords are currently coming out from under the seat but I have purchased the bulkhead connectors to mount the plugs where the factory vision plugs go. So the extra cables drive the bill to 600.00 or so. I am using the ipod connection on the bike with a cable going from the headphone jack into the Starcom. It doesn't play the factory radio but it easily could by building the same cord they are using for bluetooth. The reception sucks on my bike and we use the ipod or gps for music so for me there is no big loss not having fm.
The nice thing is this setup can be used with or without the tour pack.
I will take pictures after I install the bulkhead fittings and clean up the arrangement.
