| I noticed something interesting on my '13 today. I wear earplugs and on my '11 I could hear the radio at full volume without any problem at any speed. Today I realized I can barely hear my '13 under the same conditions. I also noticed that the sound quality when comparing them side by side in the garage is definitely better on the '13 just not as loud. I suspect that they either changed up to better quality speakers that require more power or they increased the speaker's ohm rating. Sure enough, checking the parts fiche shows that the speakers used in the '11 have a different part# than what is used in the '12 and '13. I'm going to pull one of them now and take a look.
Just checked the speakers in the trunk and they are the same as the '11 bike so no luck. I checked them with an ohm meter and they both pull 3.5 ohms. Anybody have any ideas?

Posts: 65 Halifax, NS | I read an artickle that said they drilled the holes in the speaker grill a little bigger and that lets more sound out.....
But I find my 2013 CCT on the hwy is difficult to make out. Its loud just not clear.
If your listening to music and you know the song its ok but if your trying to make out what the guy is saying during the news - forget it.... It has a distorted sound..
I never had it past 1/2 vol...

I heard someone say something about getting there stereo reflashed at the dealer. Some newer version upgrade blah blah blah. Anyway also I talked to a stereo rep and he said Victory has tweaked the head unit to not put out very much bass. Probably so they wont ever have to replace any blown speakers.

| I spoke with the Radio Sound tech on Monday. If he knows something he isn't admitting to it. He went through all the technical specs comparing the 2011 and 2013. The only thing that is different is that they went to a different type of tuner. Something about digital vs analog or something to that effect. In any case he says that would have no effect on the volume. He kind of mumbled something about, "nature of the beast" for whatever that's worth. I even went so far as to pull the front speakers just to look. They are identical to the '11. Just for kicks I swapped them out for a spare stock set I had in reserve and it sounds the same. I rode 400 miles today to finish up the break in and at speed I can barely hear it. Next I'm going to try different ear plugs. Can't think of any other practical option besides putting in an amp which I already had experience with and will not be doing again. Oh well :-( As for the rest of the bike it is great. The trans shifts like a Jap bike which is saying something. Perfect. Still clunks into first but the rest are butter smooth compared to the '11. Both my '10 and '11 had a slight surge with the cruise control on and climbing a grade. It looks like they have re-engineered that system. There is an extra cable on the throttle body which wasn't there before and there is no surge at all. Its nice to see that they keep improving systems just to improve them. Not all manufacturers spend the time and money. You guys will probably think I'm a wuss but I really like the sound of the stock cans. I'm gonna leave it alone this time :-)

Posts: 175 Hinton, Iowa | Marc, I have stock mufflers on my 13 as well. Had Ness Big honkers which I loved. But for now I am enjoying the quiet and not missing the popping. Besides, if I want loud I can ride my 2001 V92C. Isn't that goldmist a great color. |

Posts: 1290 Ruskin, Fl | I just traded my 08 with Ness Honkers for a 13. The radio is 100 times better but no where near as loud. My frustration has gone from the handlebar controls doing whatever they wanted on the 08 to the radio being too low to hear at 80 mph even with the windshield all the way up.
Thinking about the alpine 4x45 amp. Doubt speakers will make a difference.
I too am kinda liking the quite pipes, but that won't last long. I had an awesome decel pop before. I liked it. Lol
I drilled out a set of stock 08 pipes today but couldn't get the orig pipe off the 13. I gave up cause I had to be someplace and forgot I need to get new clamps to put the chrome cover back on.

Posts: 160 Camas Washington | I have a 2011 VV. Installed the Alpine 445 amp along with hertz speakers last spring. Prior to the amp I would have the volume up around 12-13 and it had distortion, this was with a 1/2 helmet or 3/4 helment. Now I ride with the volume at 8, sound is loud and clear. I also changed over to the Nolan 104 full face this summer. I wonder how the sound would be with the face shield on since its cooler out. To my surprise I only have to turn the volume up to 9. |

Put some slack in your idle cable and that should fix the serging. |

I'm thinking about adding an amp and upgrading the speakers this winter. I'm also planning on the same Nolan N104 helmet. Good to know you can still hear the stereo with the helmet on. I was a bit worried about that. |

Posts: 160 Camas Washington | With the Nolan 104 when you don't have the faceshield on but ware glasses the sound and quality is 10X better than my 1/2 or 3/4. The helmet baffles all the wind noise providing sound clarity. I was one of those who swore would never go to a full face, after putting the cool look ego to wear a 1/2 away I will never go back to a 1/2 or 3/4. 2 things I learned this summer riding through the central valley of Calf in a 105 - 107 dgeree day for 3+ hours; wearing a mesh jacket vs a t-shirt I was much cooler and having the full face my head was cooler. With both situations is about keeping the direct sun/heat off your body. |

Posts: 1066 Peru, IN | How does it sound with the face shield on? I'm tired of the wind noise with my Scorpion EXO 100 (1/2 lid) and 35* riding gets my face chilly. Besides, the more protection I get, the better off I am. |

Posts: 62 San Diego, CA | I have a 2012 XCT, and keep my volume at 6. Whether I'm on the highway or surface, if I leave my face shield cracked a bit, I can hear the music loud and clear; if I completely close my face shield, can't hear very good, particularly AM.
I'm thinking of getting a SENA headset to eliminate this issue, and be able to hear my iTunes music from my iPhone.

Posts: 160 Camas Washington | Monkeyman; sound is still very good with the face shield on, just have to turn the volume up to around 9, if going down the freeway at 75 mph+ maybe up to 10. Even at 10 with the amp and the full face the volume level is much lower than with a 1/2 and no amp. Prior to installing the amp and wearing a 1/2 I noticed once you get around 12 on the volume or so the sound quality goes to hell. Basically Amp+Upgraded Speakers+ Nolan 104 Full Face = Music Enjoyment! |

Curious where you found the room to mount this amp, and how you hooked it up to the existing wiring harness? Did you isolate the speaker wires and then split them? |

Posts: 160 Camas Washington | I installed my in the hole area under the rear trunk, lots of space. I used some double sided velcro to hold it in place. As for wiring I had some issues so took it to an installer and he found the issue what I was doing wrong. Its a loop system thus not your simple plug and play install. |
