Posts: 725 Reno County, KS | I have searched around the forums and not found anything regarding the little 12V "powerlet" connector found inside on the bottom of console. Does anyone know of an adapter that allows you to plug regular 12V accessories into this location? The dealer seamed to think that it was only for heated clothing. I would imagine some kind of adaptor to go from the plug to a standard 12V cigarette lighter socket type plug. Any takers? |

They do have several adapters that go from the BMW type connector to the normal cigarette lighter plug. I ordered two, one for my Nuvi 760 GPS and another for my cell phone charger for the trunk. The order came within three days and they work great. |

| From the Powerlet web site, I found everything I needed and the cost was fair. I think the Powerlet connection is much more positive than the 'lighter' socket connection. I bought an adapter and had a charger plug slide out of the lighter socket. Much more positive connection with the Powerlet native cords. They do not have them for everything but the list is extensive. |

Posts: 725 Reno County, KS | I was considering the "drill-out and toss away" possibility as well but the more I look at the Powerlet plug, the better I like it. Seems like it would be much more durable. I know I hate it when the cigarette plugs start to wear and don't want to stay in the socket. I end up clipping the ends at that point and soldering back on cheap-o's from Wally World. The springing + center is inherently flawed. Causes the stupid things to back out with vibration. Now I'm thinking about switching my accessories over to Powerlet instead. LOL |

I bought a plug for a jacket and clipped off the end. I then had an extra female cigarette adapter and removed the cover added the new wires and viola! DONE!
I think it is crap when a Victory dealer doesn't know and you have to go to another touring company (BMW in this case) to find the needed accessories.
Hopefully the dealers will get better. I can see they want too. |

I have to admit though, i had to tell the salesman at the dealership i work at about POWERLET. At least we started informing the customers about the website and that they should go through them for any speciallized connectors. You just cant beat the powerlet sockets and plugs. They do stay connected and you help prevent excessive loading and wasted power consumption due the the good connection and better construction. |

| ok i have read and reread this and still don't get it. i know what a powerlet is. i know you can get them from the manufacturer. i know you can't get them from the victory or bmw dealer in my area because they are on backorder. i know they are for heated stuff which i dont own. what i do own is a phone and a blackberry. so........ what good is a powerlet plug if 1) i can't plug anything into it without buying an adapter and 2) if i buy the adapter i am back to the old not too secure cigarette lighter type plug i have in my car and on my harley for that matter, which never fell out anyway. 3) how do you plug a heated anything into a plug in your trip trunk or glove box.
dontcha' think victory coulda' shoulda' put at least one american type plug on a new american motorcycle. i'm not giving them my 20.00. i'm going to radio shack. |

Posts: 404 San Antonio, TX United States | It is an american product. And the cigarette light adapter is a very good and solid item. I bought mine when i bought the bike. The locations on the Vision almost mirror the locations suggested by the Powerlet company. The extension for using a heated vest, arm chaps or leg chaps can be plugged in convienently in the littel glove box and then closed. The trunk location, well that would only be for things like keeping a phone on charge or other type item. The place where the passengers headset jack and volume control can also be used to install an extra powerlet plug. If you review the accessory catalog for victory, you can also mount one near the clutch area above the primary. But, just like anything else, you need to go and do what makes you happy and comfortable. I personally am glad that Victory used the best out there for the power accessories. I wasnt happy about it at first, but it was far cheaper for me to spend 20 bucks than the time, aggravation, fuel to get to electronics store and back and still have to buy solder and waterproof/heatshrink joints to make a mediocre connection from what is already installed. |

| they might be the best item on the market to me but they are still useless to me. a bargain is no bargain if you don't need it. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | This is one of those "slow to catch on" good idea, sort of like Victory itself. I use my outlets to charge my phone, and it is an agrevation to put in the adapter and then plug in the phone charger. Currently there is not a direct plug in charger for a motorola phone or the last time I checked. As this type of plug catches on and becomes more popular then it will be well worth it. The claim is that the plug is more reliable than the other standard cig lighter plug. I can see why and I understand why because I have had problems with the old type from time to time. I expect my adapter to give me a problem until I can get the real deal. |

+2.....it's been the cheapest accesory I've purchased to date. I don't really need it but figured for those longer trips I'd keep a plug in the trunk. Apparently this is the same set up that the BMW's use.

Posts: 4 San Antonio, TX | What I really want the good folks at Powerlet to come up with is a male plug finished with a female USB port. I don't need another 6 to 12 inches of cable taking up my tiny glove box, just get me to a USB port. I'd prefer not to swap out the Powerlet slot with a USB conversion plug (as a previous threat well documented), but keep the existing superior connection that Powerlet offers. You would think with all the cabling and adapter options that Powerlet offers that a simple USB plug would be an easy sell. My email to them has still not been answered. |
