| Ok I have had my 2010 VV 8Ball now for 2 weeks and I must say I really like it! The only thing that I have a complaint about is the SEARING heat that pours outta the engine!!! WOW. Is there a MOD or something that can lower the heat? I have read about power commanders or something like that? I was thinking about heat wrapping the exhaust black....would that help?
Does anyone else VV run really hot?
Thanks |

Posts: 599 New Mexico | Yes, some have that complaint. I have experienced it maybe a dozen times in the 2+ years I've owned my Vision. Doesn't really seem to be any rhyme or reason for it. I've ridden in 116 deg with no problems, and 80 deg where I thought my right leg was burning through. I'm wondering if the wind direction/speed might have an impact??
Lowers seem to help the most. Partially open to direct the airflow onto your legs.

Where my feet and legs are the most comfortable is also the place where I feel less heat. Try the lowers, but make sure you get those puppies on right. If it were I, I would screw them on with a pretty chrome screw into the faring to make sure they never flew off. |

| I have 20K miles on my Vision and the only times the heat has really bothered me is when stuck on miles of stop and go traffic.
If you have not done so already, get the lowers.
Unless the bike is running lean, the power commander isn't going to help. If the bike is new, running lean, and is stock, take it back to the dealer.
The exhaust is shielded and has very little heat exchange surface area, most of the heat you are going to feel is from the engine, so in my opinion wrapping the exhaust is an exercise in futility.
Lowers or baker air wings are life savers when riding if the heat bothers you. At speed in 100 degree heat I don't even notice the heat from the engine. |

Posts: 3204 Memphis | Newer bikes all run leaner (which means hotter) to make EPA regs. If you are coming off of an older model bike, anything you buy now will feel hotter in comparison. Best bet is to enrich the fuel flow. Wrapping the pipes will keep heat off your legs but here's the tradoff: Your engine needs to scavange heat away from itself in order to cool itself. This is acccomplished with the fins, oil cooler and exhaust pipes. Those pipes get hot because they are pulling the majority of the heat away from the engine. If you wrap the pipes, the heat stays at the exhaust manifold. The second downside is that now you have trapped the heat in the pipes, there is nowhere for the heat to get off of the pipes and they will break down a lot faster than ones that can release that heat. Your call. |

| Hmm good info. Yes so far most of my driving has been in the city,(stop and Go) so that makes sense that the heat would be crazy. I think I will be buying some Lowers! In BLACK of course! 8Ball |

They make a huge difference both ways-they will trap heat around you when it is chilly and they will draw cool air right at your inner leg when you pull the flaps in. I wish I had done it sooner. |

And the other is the usual air cooled engine heat. HMD has a solution for the oil cooler heat but is waiting for a patent, so that ain't happening for about 10 freaking years.

| Monkey Butt is not good.
Heat tape might help a little but keep in mind the cylinders are putting out the heat.
Lowers are the choice for most vision. I have read where guys are buying exhaust tape from the auto store for the bottom of the seat.
Others are using sheep skin or wood beads. I put duck tape over the large hole in the frame where the shock is.
I use Gold Bond power way better then baby power and put it every where |

Should also get you a lot of looks while riding. |

Posts: 741 Central New York | I ask about what you wear because I only found a heat issue once when I was force to wear a low shoe. I usually wear a high boot (actually, I prefer western boots) and heat has never been an issue. Myself, I had more of a heat issue with my old Goldwing in stop and go traffic. Anytime that electric fan kicked on you would rather be somewhere else.
Anyway, as you said. get'er on the highway. That's where a Vision belongs anyway. |
