Had an unusual problem last week.. Filled up the tank and when I went to replace the fuel cap, it came apart!

Bottom part that goes into the notches in the filler neck came off and went onto the tank.

Fortunately, the spring and metal washer that are inside the cap did not go into the tank.

After a few calls...ended up at Hilltop Victory in Wytheville, Va. They pulled a fuel cap off an 8-Ball Vision and sold it to me. Great guys!

Got home and decided to fish the lower part of the cap out of the fuel tank. Aparently, the caps on the '08's were glued together.

They are now held together with a screw from the inside going into the main top part of the cap.

I was able to reassemble my old cap by drilling a hole in the center of the bottom piece and screwing a 1" #10 wood screw thru the bottom into the top half.

The top half has a hole in it that I was able to run my screw into and get it tight enough to pull it all back together properly.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 08 gas caps were recalled. I took mine to the dealer and they looked up the P/N and replaced without question. My new one has a screw like the pic above.

+1 on the fix with the gas cap.....Be glad it is that easy for you. My filler spout is deformed and will not except a gas cap so I have rigged up an old fashion cap with a rubber gasket that is held down with a folded up rag to keep it from leaking but need to get this fixed. l will have the dealer remove the tank and I will modify it with a pop-up bung and cap and have it re-installed after the Fall Ride @ Tomahawk, I would not miss the Parade for anything.

I do not believe the '08 Vision cap was recalled, but, I did get mine replaced and reimbursed by the Victory dealer.

I would smell gasoline when the motorcycle was not moving. I was told the new cap was beefed up.
