I need to tighten my header bolts because I figure they are sucking a little air. I get a little popping since my NASCAR6 pipes.

My question is, is it better to tighten them when they are cold or hot? My guess is cold because they would swell when hot. Someone who is 'wrench smarter than I' please advise.

I'm not a wrench, but what makes you think it's the header bolts are loose? With after market pipes and no other adjustments I'd be surprised if you did not have some popping.

I thought the same thing and went thru the process of removing the exhast, only to find the rear head pipe had spilt. Of couse I didnt know until after I got it back together. Got it temp. fixed but have to pull it apart again to have it welded.......

I've found loose header bolts when goin' over bikes (especially at 500 & 3,000 miles) and they've needed a couple of tweaks before they settle in & stay snug/tight-between the heat & cold cycles + vibration they should be checked along with all the exhaust fasteners & I'd agree cold is the best time for checkin'.

Get some Lloydz gaskets, install, torque to spec and forget. Your only difference as I understand it you do not have stock down pipes? Not sure what a NASCAR6 pipe is.........
