Posts: 1117 Northeast Ohio | I just ordered two additional plastic washers for the top of them. I know it'll work as I cut out the bottom of a margarine bowl to make a thicker washer and it holds fine now. Part number for the washer is 5436790. They run about $2 a piece. |

| I used electrical tape between the top retaining ring and the plastic slide washer, worked like a charm.
Use blue lock tight on all retaining hardware, that will keep them from taking flight. |

Posts: 1117 Northeast Ohio | PhantomX, under the fairing / cowl. You will see a disc with two torx screws on them (the same size as the ones that actually hold the upper deflector to the bike). If you remove those screws, the disc on top will come off and you will see the washer in question. This whole assembly is incredibly simple. Not much to worry about there.
Mine were fine until I replaced the stock plastic with CycleOps metal ones. No biggie, I'll put an additional washer in each side and be good. Mine would only move at 75+ mph. |

Max, I'll just say having the uppers, and never the lowers, but have ridden a Vision with one, it makes the ride more sterile. If you are not tolerent to the heat, then the uppers and lowers would do you well. Also, you can move them to remove even more air flow around you, this is helpful in the cooler weather to create a warm pocket around you, ever so slight, but noticeable. While I understand the heat issue, and it can get rather intense as you may be aware of, I do not have a problem with it. I took off the uppers, and at worse, I might get a little wetter in the knees when it is raining. I think it has actually helped the air flow to make more wind to go by taking the edge of high heat with it. A bonus to all of this is that I like the looks better without the hangy thingys on such a beautifully styled bike. |

I keep looking for some kind of louver to put on the bike to enhance lower air flow, as those OME wings look like crap. Again, thanks for the input. I'll save the $$ and add some more chrome or something! LOL |

| Max, I have an 8-ball too and I added uppers to block some of the air in the winter. I ride to work all year and they will reduce the air turbulence around your arms and body, - this can be nice when the temps are between 40-60 F. It is a pain to install the pivot parts that are in the fairing, the deflector itself just bolts into that from the bottom. A large diameter rubber cylinder gets compressed when the pivot is bolted in and this provides the friction. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I use to do the same thing and it would work, but without them I really don't give that much though because there is a good air flow. The advantage I see in the uppers is additional rain and wind protection, but not enough to warrant them, for me, that is. |

Posts: 219 Pittsburgh, PA | I also ride for the better part of the year. This morning the temp in the burgh was 38 degrees. Those little wings block a lot of the air from below the knee all the way to your waist. When coupled with the lowers it really does keep the weather off of the rider. I can also tell you that the difference is noticable to me as my right upper does move all by itself into the open position (in line with the fairing) and I simply reach down and fix it. How difficult is it to get inside the fairing? I have never had mine apart. |
