Was coming home from thunder beach bike rally today (Panama City Beach) and and experienced something I never had before and hope to never again. I came across an accident site between a car and a motorcycle. Bike was flattened in the road and at least one body possibly two were under a sheet on the side of the road. Best I can tell it must have happened maybe 15 min before going I got there. It made the rest of the trip home a little nerve racking to say the least. It really kind of screwed me up for a while. I pray for the fallen rider, his family and everyone else that was involved. Ride safe my friends.

yes, eagle, it is a surreal experience to see such a sight. Prayers for the family and friends of those who lost their life in such a tragic accident. While accidents happen everyday, in everyday events, it never lessens the impact, especially when it happens to someone doing something we do. Ride hard, ride long, but above all, ride safe.

I never will understand why people have to tell you about a biker down. They never tell you about a boater or a car.
They just can't wait to tell us like its going to make me stop ridding. No I'll keep riding but will a void you cause I don't like your conversation

I saw one just the other night on my 25MPH street. Guy on a motorcycle going to fast, hits telephone pole. I dont think its about the type of vehicle, it's just that a motorcyclist is usually there in plain sight. Not hidden inside a car/truck.
I got there before the ambulance, my neighbor was doing compressions on the guy. It was a terrible sight.

It doesn't make me want to quit riding, just makes me want to spend more time with my family.

Interesting post... coincidental I might add...

...Sunday afternoon I was in my truck approaching a inoperative intersection (blinking traffic lights). As I pulled up, I saw a motorcycle on it's side and a guy frantically trying to lift a limp and barely walking (staggering) rider from the middle of the intersection; to the safety of a traffic curb (since fucking cars were still flying around the accident site).

Turns out that the guy was dragging his girlfriend to safety... we got her laid down and she was screaming about her leg; that it was broken. Firetruck and medics showed up within 5 minutes and they got her stabilized and off to the hospital.

After talking to witnesses and the cops, turns out that she and her boyfriend (both on H.D.'s) approached the blinking red light at the intersection but she didn't stop and T-boned a car driving through on the blinking yellow light.

What's a shame is that they just got her H.D. out of the repair shop from a previous accident, and were on the way to get it inspected; when she found herself in another one (accident).

Some people should not ride.

If it is the accident that happen Sunday morning then according to the paper, the bike hit the rear of an SUV making a right hand turn from Hwy 79 onto a side road. Sorry to say but no helmets were worn by the bikers. The driver of the bike died at the scene & the passenger is in "guarded condition". One vehicle swerved to miss the passenger and ran over the bike in the road.

Prayers to the families.

Johnnyvision,
No one is telling you not to ride. I do think from time to time it is good to understand these situations and that this lifestyle of ours is dangerous. Awareness can save lives. I agree with rwilley, makes me want to spend more time with family.
