| i am doing my first oil change since purchasing my 09 vision. it has a k&n oil filter,hp 1008. i bought one at advanced auto for about 15 bucks. i planned to use amzoil. is this overkill? i have got 8000k on my kingpin previously.between oil changes.is this risky? banjodan 09 midnight cherry vision tour premium! |

| I get mine at Napa too and use Rotella full synthetic.

Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | Vic filter and SuperTech oil from Walmart. Been using SuperTech in my motorcross racing bikes, lawnmowers, truck, car, boat, etc. ever since I can remember. It's cheap enough to use it as chain and cable lube on the mountain bike and motorcross bike. Never had an oil related engine breakdown in my life and I keep my vehicles over 200k miles. In fact, the only breakdown was when I changed to Champion sparkplugs to save money. The center ceramic exploded sending pieces all over the motor. I later found other people had the same issue with Champion and went back to NGK.
I know no one else on here will dare use cheap oil in their expensive machines. I don't blame you. If I was not educated by my father on oil I would use the good stuff too. And I'm not going to get into an oil discussion either. I'm not taking questions...only sharing my experiences. |

Jasper, MO | Well, since you asked.
I use WIX 51356 filters (also sold as NAPA GOLD 1356 and Carquest 57356) and 10W-40 Amsoil and change it at 5000 mile intervals, which is double the recommended 2500 miles on Victory or other similar oils (you better change at 2500 miles on them). If you want to use Amsoil, use the regular 10W-40, or the regular 20W-50, or the 10W-40 V-Twin oil. Do not use the 20W-50MCV V-twin oil because that one is designed for Harleys and has additives that may cause your wet clutch to slip. Use one of any of the other three types of Amsoil.

| I change mine every 5k too, I know Vic says 2500 but I don't have any problems finding neutral. |

Pittsburgh, PA | dont waste your money on those goofy oil filters that you have to clean and service on every oil change. Espeically if you have a later model vision where your oil changes are every 5000 miles. If you can get a good oil filter for $5 do that.. If you factor what a cleanable oil filter costs, then divide it by what a regular oil filter costs then add the amount of mileage it takes for you to get to what it costs for a serviceable oil filter you will be shocked... most of us wont even keep a bike that long.. Then factor if the cost of the cleaning supplies needed to properly clean the serviceable oil filter and the costs dont just end with the oil filter itself... the serviceable oil filter have very very good oil flow ratings, but i have personally read where their filtering was Not anything to brag about at all.. (in real world tests, not what they say on paper) even the $3-$7 oil filters have good oil flow so there is no benefit to having the extra flow.. then others say the oil filter itself "cools" the oil better.. that is also bogus according to tests and real world usage.. No measurable difference in oil temperature at all .. so do what everyone else is doing and use a Good oil filter that doesn't break the bank... I personally use a Napa gold OR napa platinum oil filter (made by wix) |

Moravia, IA | Another NAPA filter and Rotella T6 user here......on a 2008 - got over 70K miles and no issues. Recently had the top of the motor open for LLoyds cams and the mechanic said the motor looked nice and clean. He said alot of "other" oils leave staining and such.
However I can tell a serious difference at around 3K miles in the way the bikes shift......sometimes sooner if I ride it hard.....so I change it between 2500 and 3000. |

I actually sent a sample at 3200 miles to Blackstone Labs.....they said the oil had plenty of life left and recommended I run it to 4k and sample again.
I've no doubt you can do 5k safely......but the nice thing about these cheaper oil changes is I can afford to do more of them. |

New Bohemia, VA | I've not found the rotella blend around here, and was using the supertech filter, but wally world no longer sells them. I've gone with the WIX51356 and Lucas M/C oil blend from my local O'Really's autoparts store. about $50 every other month to 2 months. |
