My brother and I are planning our yearly ride and was wondering about some good areas to ride up around Minneapolis or general Minnesota area. We plan on going straight up from Louisiana to Minnesota and then over to the Canadian border above Michigan cross the border and then back down. Yes, we already know about the passport thing since Louisiana doesn't do enhanced driver's licenses. Looking for some good countryside to see.

I agree with johnnyvision. I used to live in MN...currently live in the IL Quad Cities but I love riding the WI backroads. If I could only figure out the lettering system of the WI roads. Not that it matters too much, I don't mind getting lost. All things considered, for the midwest the WI roads are enjoyable and scenic with some nice twisties along the river roads. Something for you and your brother to consider.

I would like to say that Minnesota has some amazing roads, although maybe not around Minneapolis so much. If you are coming up from LA, I would say if you have the time to take the River Road all the way up. And switch back and forth because each side of the river has it's own unique things. Going over to the UP is a great ride also...not many choices for roads though.

rf43mn and HLUSN8: Which road is considered the River Road? Going to try to look it up on Google so that I can plan a route that way. We are planning on going around the end of June or July depending on when I can schedule my vacation. One of main objectives is to cross the border for a little while just to say we made it to Canada. Missed our opportunity a couple of years ago when a big storm front came while we were in Montana and made us detour back south.
