I wanted to ask this, I did a search and couldn't get all the answers. I know the Vision has an Xm radio $400. I wanted to ask about other options like Sirius and Xm radios that can go from car to car. Here is my situation. I live in SW pa. Over winter the vision Xm system would be sitting in the bike not used while I am paying monthly for it. Does the other options use some sort of Fm modulator? And how would a non-Vision Xm unit power up on the Vision? I understand that the Vision Xm unit can be controlled form the console on the bike. I have listened to Xm radio for a week from a friend's radio, and there were only 2 stations I actually liked. The reason for wanting an Xm radio is mostly due to a non-existent Victory radio I have now. Where I live we have a lot of hills and valleys. My reception is so bad its almost unlistenable. I have 4.13A software with HW4 . but still no luck. I also checked my antenna it is plugged in. I just thought of something as I was typing this. Is the non-vision Xm radio water proof? If not its no good to me then. I just wanted to know if I did go with a non-vision Xm unit what I need to do to make it work.

mp3 is the way of the future. you get so much music on a flash drive that you can never hear the same song twice in a 48 hour time frame. I would check into that.

I use a portable XM radio. Its called XM2GO. Its came with a dock for the house stereo and car. Also came with 3 antenna's. One for the house Car and bike. It works very well. Only the volume and mute are integrated into the Visions stereo. You must change stations on the portable devise. I can live with it. For half the price and its more useful for me.

I was thinking about an Mp3 player also. Someone mentioned that if you use a mp3 player and not an ipod that when you press play on the mp3 player and you ride you can Not change to another song? is this true.? They said you have to listen to the music in the order it was put on the mp3 player. Where as "i believe" that with an Ipod you can change to another song and maybe even another folder? I dont have neither at this time. Im researching into what does what. I dont want to buy Brand A and foundout brand B would have been a better choice... lol

Sounds like you got yourself a great deal! I also dont mind to much about changing the station as from what i seen there are very many stations i like in the first place. so i would leave it on one or two of them... Now where did you mount it? Thats what i really want to know! and do you tune your fm radio to a freq to get the Xm on your system?

Hey MadDog, how does your Xm unit charge? I see it has a 5 hour battery life. Can it in some way be charge while you ride?

I added the XM Roady to my HD 4 years ago. It requires no fm modulator, broadcasts over preset fm stations (adjustable) It has a list of fm frequencies just in case some are used locally. It only rquires a lighter adapter and a fixed place for the antenna. You must use the adapter because it rgulates the 12v to 6v. I took my adapter apart and soldered a inline fuse lead to the center terminal and added a spade terminal to the end and a ground lead and terminal to the outer terminal. This allowed me to hard wire the cable to any power/ground source. I zip tied the head unit to the handle bars. The hardest part was finding a place to hide excess antenna cable as it is designed for autos and is about 10-12 ft long. Dont try to cut and splice the extra cable it doesnt work. Just coil it up and tuck it under the seat ( I think it helps reception also). All you need to move it from bike to car is an extra power lead and antenna. At the time the Roady was only $30 and it was cheaper to buy a second unit to aquire the power adapter and antenna, ordering them seprately would have cost me $60, plus I have an extra head unit I can activate in case something break on the original. The only problem I have ever had with that setup is having to change broadcast frequencies in certain areas, minor adjustment at gas stop. Since it broadcasts over fm all audio controlls on the bike can be used, only channel selection must be done at the head unit.
Since I got rid of my HD, it now resides permanently in the truck (keeps my wife occupied on trips). Going on 5 years with the same unit with no problems. it has been through high desert temp and sudden downpours without a problem. I did cover it with a plastic sandwich bag when washing the bike just for good measure.

Hope this helps.

It easily fits in the glove box. I just plug it in to the power outlet and plug it into the existing pig tail for the speakers. It will charge when your riding when its turned off. When its on it powers off the bike battery. It comes in on the auxiliary mode on the radio.

Do you have any reception issues with your portable Xm unit? i ask as i have been doing alot of reading today on portable units and that seems to be the biggest complaint. Not on any one unit., but just in general.

Hi Chris,

I hope you are enjoying the Vision. It was great to see you at SEVROC in Maggie Valley in May.

I have the Vision XM Radio and the iPod cable and an iPod and I listen to the iPod 90% of the time. The iPod is the only way to go. It has the best sound quality and the level of integration is awesome. You can select play lists from the buttons on the console and move through songs with the buttons on the left handlebar plus control volume and mute. Also the iPod gets power from the cable to keep it charged.  I do like having the XM on long trips to get more variety including Foxnews. On a bike like the Vision the tight integration is a big deal and worth a price, just my opinion.

I agree with Spock. However, even my ipod gets old on long trips, so - since I already have the Garmin 2820 built in, I added the Garmin GXM30 portable XM antenna/receiver. Now, all you have to do is decide which you want to listen to and you get the best of both worlds. The swap of the two cables takes all of about 1 minute or less and if you plug the aux cable into the side of the Garmin, it plays very well over the Vision sound system, either speakers or helmet headset. You do lose a bit of the (minor) functionality of the Vision XM, but you still can control volume and mute from the handlebars and all the rest from the Garmin screen. The Garmin add-on is about $175, while the Vision XM is $500 plus install. I see little loss in the Garmin setup and went that way and saved almost $400.

P.S.  Thanks to TimS and Devilboy for some advance heads-up on the Garmin setup and install.  Their help made my choice easier and relieved doubt about the antenna mount.

I have Sirius in my truck and home and don't wish to subscribe to another service (XM). Has anyone successfully integrated a Sirius receiver into their Vision?

Thanks.

I have the sirus radio in my glove box. I plugged it into the aux. cable. The sirus radio is 12 volt so   I  adapted the power cable to the power port. I ran the antenna wire up to the fronf of the dash where victory has their xm antenna set. I've had great reception and I don't lose any signal. To change the channel all you have to do is open the glove box door. The unit I am using is the Streamer GT. Sells for about $40.00 in any truck stop. I've used from San Diego to Daytona and it works great!

i dont know what i am thinking so bare with me please. I was wondering, can a Xm or Sirius radio (non-vision unit) be mounted in the trunk, powered by the power port and then "if possible" Some type of extention input adaptor just like the one used to plug in your mp3, but ALOT longer.. Is there such a device and can it be used to go from the trunk to where the glove box is and mate with the stock mp3 adaptor using a female to female adaptor? I was thinking about the stock vision unit but i seen where they rasied their prices, and now that unit is $430 PLUS i didnt know until i read more carefully that you need a $50 wire harness to make it work. So there is a 500 dollar bill just for a satelite radio! I seen where some xm radio have remote controls. Maybe putting one in the glove box would work better. I thought about the ones with the fm mods built into it. but so far every review that i have read on cnet.com had very bad things to say about the built fm mods in the xm radios..

Since my victory vision fm radio is such a joke, i need something more.. But i dont want it to be $500 more... lol I have done the mp3 player and thats nice. but you can only listen to the same songs so many times before your ready to scream...

thanks

Well i went to walmart today to look at Xm and siruis radios.. None to be found! I asked the lady where they would be hiding and she said they are no longer stocking any until the NEW batch of radio come out. The new ones being after the merger... no brand A or brand B...

Just go to ebay and buy one. It's much cheaper!

I have the XM MyFi 2GO which sounds just like Maddog's but I can also record 10 hours of programming on it, and I can either use the wire to hook it up, or the built in FM modulator to send it to an FM radio. I really like it. I try to keep the recorded programming full by just every now and again setting it to record while it's on the charger in the house. If when I'm out the signal is weak, I just click it to playback mode and I'm good to go. MP3's are fine, but I can never decide what I want to listen to. Also, I can get the weather and traffic on the XM when I need it. I've had this unit for a few years now and although I don't use it a ton... I use it enough to make the monthly worth it.
