Posts: 73 Nor Cali | My left upper wind deflector is still loose after tightening it up as much as it will go. It's a plastic connection, don't wanna bust it. Any tips on how to fix this?

I heard the same advice about having to shim the rotating mechanism internally.... the aftermarket replacement deflectors don't do anything to address the rotating mechanism.

Had the same problem until I took the top of the fairing apart and drilled holes into the pivot mounts for the deflectors and bolted them together. Maybe I can post pics later out of town right now.

Posts: 160 Camas Washington | There is a thin plastic O ring that wears thin which makes the fitting lose. You can order them from your dealer cost about a buck each. Very simple to replace. Just did mine and they are fine again. I also have the metal deflectors which weigh more than the plastic ones |

The plastic those are made of are just a hair thicker and they will make the deflectors stiff enough that they will not turn even at 110 mph. Don't ask how I know this! Lol! |

All the mod does is act as a tight clamp for the large friction washer. NOTE the wire I have through the top is for small led light that I attached to the deflector, I plan on showing that small amber led light in a different post. |

Posts: 73 Nor Cali | Done. Used both Teflon washers on the left side & replaced both rubber sleeves, the Teflon washer on the (R) side was OK. Seems most Visions have this problem on the (L) side, it needs a slightly thicker washer. Works well now. Now I'm wondering if this is gonna be a yearly fix.

Posts: 259 Land O Lakes, FL | I pulled mine apart from before my trip last week, just ran a thin layer of electrical tape around each washer and put them back in, 1500 miles and lost of 90-100mph passes and they haven't budged! Perfect cheap fix though they are bit of pain in the arse to get too. I had to pull the turn signals out a bit to get to them but worth while fix and cost me nothing but time. |

| I had to tighten the upper deflectors up on my '13 yesterday. I came up with a pretty good method of increasing the tension. I won't get into actually taking apart the top mount as that is already covered extensively in this thread. Here is a pic of the top cap and teflon ring after removal: The top cap slides on the teflon ring. The other side of the teflon ring sits on top of a rubber sleeve. In order to increase the tension slightly I wanted to add a layer of material to the side of the teflon ring that sits on top of the rubber sleeve. I used a couple of pieces of 2" duct tape I had in the shop. If you have a 3" roll that would make it easier. I cut a length of tape and laid it sticky side up on my desk like so: I then laid the teflon ring on top of the tape and pressed it in place: I then took a pair of scissors and removed the excess material from the outside of the ring: Did the same thing with the other half: I then used a box cutter and removed the excess material from the inside: Here is the finished piece flipped over: I then reassembled the top mount making sure that the taped side was down on top of the rubber sleeve. The amount of additional tension due to the thickness of the tape turned out to be perfect. The deflectors still move smoothly but are no longer effected by the wind. As I said earlier, if you happen to have a roll of 3" tape the job would be a bit quicker. Marc |
