1- do we fill up on the side stand?
or sit up right on the bike to fill.
and has anyone had gas blow out of the carb onto
the lower portion just under the seat
of the bike when accelerating hard at high rpms's ?

Posts: 354 20 miles west of Chicago. | Fill up on the sidestand. When gas is up to bottom of filler neck, wait a few seconds and look again; some fuel might shift over to the left tank. if so, top it off. If you overfill or the gas bubbles up over the top of the filler hole, it will drain out under the bike via a small rubber tube. There should be no fuel leaking from the fuel line, rails or injectors under any circumstances. |

If it were to catch fire, it would be hard to get off without gettng hurt. I struggled with fill-ups when I first got this bike, but now I just take it slow when it gets toward the neck and place my foot on the right floorboard. This will bring it more level and allow the fuel to cross over more better. |

There's no carb, Tom, the Vision is fuel injected. If you have fuel coating the area under the seat then you have some sort of problem with, perhaps, the fuel delivery system. I'd suggest having the dealer look at it asap. |

Posts: 732 Western WA | That was the first sign of trouble on my bike. It's in the shop now (last I heard it was a coil wire), so we will see what's the final verdict.
But I agree with everyone elsel, I would get it checked ASAP. |

I have had the same issue with smelling fuel on fillup, checked out yesterday and it turns out to be
the fuel sending unit. Got one ordered and be in Monday. Not saying that is your problem but check it out, it is on the left side,up front can't miss it. Also check your vent line.
Good luck Bob |

| Hey Tom
No computer hook up you could see little drips around the sending unit and the front over flow
hose. Will get it replaced Tuesday at Rangy's. Just don't fill more than 3/4 of a tank and it ok tell you get it checked out. |

Posts: 506 Woodland Hills, CA | I had the very same problem, but as it turned out, it was nothing highly technical or earth shattering. As much as it pains me to admit my idiocy here, my problem was with me and not the bike; I wasn't screwing the gas cap on completely. Each t ime I screwed it on, it seemed to stop at a very logical place, and even looked like it was neatly aligned. Unfortunately, as it turned out, it was not screwed on completely, and still had almost a half turn to go. I am obviously not saying you don't have a bigger problem, but you just might want to check your gas cap first. Once I realized how to master this highly technical skill, the smell completely went away......and I lived to tell the tale.
Good luck.

The Poconos | I noticed the gas smell when I filled up last week. I only filled up about 3/4 this last time and no gas smell. 1 more fill up for a test and I guess mine will go to the shop. |

| Check to make sure your gas cap is on properly.....I had a strong gas smell once after fill up and even though the gas cap looked like it was on properly, it wasn't. |

Posts: 725 Reno County, KS | It would be worth the effort to wipe down any fuel soaked areas with some warm soapy and then clean water (cheapest alternative to electrical cleaner and lube). Petroleum is an awesome solvent but it tends to dissolve, dry out and crack electrical insulation. I don't know what it does to leather, but you might wanna clean and oil the underside of your seat next time you wash the bike. Just a thought. BTW, do NOT use WD40 because it's a conductor and can cause shorting. If you dont believe me, try cleaning spark plug fouling with it when the plug fires! LOL Hope this helps

Posts: 68 LONDONDERRY NH | Mine has had the gas smell since I bought it. The dealer extended the fuel tank vents but that did not help. This past weekend while riding the gas leaked again. This time I checked and the leak was from the gas cap. The dealer called Polaris and they said to replace the right side fuel tank because of a bad sealing surface. I just wonder how much plastic has to come off to change that tank? |

| Well, you are going to love this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took the bike to Randys cycles he had Jim take the panels and tank area apart
as he was looking into the over flow and vapor hose he saw that small rubber
grommet that is used to seat the fuel door. one in the fron and one in the back.
As you may think the grommet came off and fell into the area below the fuel
compartment and it seated in the over flow hose. So now you know the rst of the story.
filled up and all was good. thanks to everyone for the help. tom |

Posts: 129 Leander,Texas | OK i have to admit it i filled up over the neck and i had fuel over flow spill onto my leg as i was turning right. I learned quickly you will have no gas smell or over flow issues if you fill only to the bottom of the neck and only fill the bike with the kickstand down and i havent had one problem since. |

The Poconos | I am going through this issue now. Victory has "red flagged" my Vision and instructed my dealer not to return it until it is figured out. Safety.

Yep, same here. Except that the dealer replaced both tanks.
Problem solved. |

The Poconos | Well........got a call from the dealer today.
They found the tank-to-tank line vent, a rubber hose that runs between the front of both tanks, had a hole rubbed in it from an electrical connector. Every time the bars were turned left it pinched the hose. |

Ok...I found MY gas smell and I am NOT happy! I found out that I twisted the cap on and missed on one side. The cap rotated on and bent the locking portion (the aluminum part) of the TANK. AAARGH! I was and AM NOT happy!
I can't believe that the aluminum is THAT thin. I tried to straighten it with a pair of pliers and only managed to bend the down spout a bit. SO, another method will need to be done to get it straight again.
Basically, there is no solid seal any longer and it allows gas to come out around the cap. VERY annoying! |
