My 2013 radio is much better at reception, especially in FM mode than my 2008. However it seems the radio does not have the volume that the 2008 radio can put out. Is that normal ?? If so is there an amplifier available to make the system louder ?? Any suggestions appreciated.........

I noticed the same thing when I traded my '08 in for a '13. I used to be able to hear the radio on my '08 at 85 mph with some to spare. I believe the only plug and play amp just does the front. I did the Alpine amp and it is ok, but not what I expected with 180 watts.
I plan on going to the 300 watt Rockford Fostate at some point.

Where does one go to "trade in an '08 radio for a newer one with better reception, like your '13.  Is it just the "13 that has the better reception.

My understanding is if you change your radio on a 2008, the Garmin 2820 won't have audio. I think there were some post on this a couple years ago.

The newer radio has more features if you use an iPod. You can scroll through songs by artist, song , or album. Not sure what year that was changed. I too remember reading a thread about changing out the '08 radion for a newer one. If I remember right it is not practical.

I put in my ear buds and listen to what I want to hear from my phones music stash, not formulaic formatted music, weak signals and 25 minutes of commercials every hour, and with a great mix of about 700 tunes on shuffle, I'm always 'in tune'. Have to be careful when 'High Tides and Green Grass' by the OUTLAWS pops up because you can be just under supersonic at the end of 11 minutes.

I hear that! I have Bluetooth in my helmet but still prefer the bike radio. I use the iPod 95% of the time.
Nothing like turning heads with Van Halen's Eruption at 180 watts.

Does the '13 radio have bluetooth?

Better go to bank and take out a loan for a 2013 bike it will be about the same price as buy a new radio.

My '08 radio got swapped for a '10 radio when the original gave me problems. The reception of the '10 is much better and the volume is better than the '08 also. I have no idea if the later '11 and up radios will work on your '08, but these people will know, since they make the things http://www.radiosound.com/customer_service.php

They will trade you a new radio for yours and $175.

When I first got my 2013 I noticed I couldn't hear the radio on the freeway as well as my 2011. I called Radio Sound and spoke with a tech. After a lot of beating around the bush he finally told me that they improved the "quality" of the sound for 2013 and in doing that lost some volume. So, there you go. To get around it I switched over to a pair of Senna 5 bluetooth headsets and installed the Senna/Victory dongles so now we can listen to the radio, answer phone calls and chat. It really worked out great during our cross country trip last summer. The only small problem is that the dongles generate a small amount of feedback which can be annoying when the radio isn't playing to drown it out. Victory thinks they may have fixed that already and is sending me new dongles to try out which should come this week. All and all, having sound through the helmet sounds better to me than the speakers at highway speed and that's with earplugs.

Marc, I guess that will work with any Bluetooth headset? I'm using the SMH 10. When I turn it on I get 2 beeps that it connected to my phone. 1 for phone and the other for mp3 I guess. I wonder how or if you could do 2 devices.

Pairing the radio and the phone was not straight forward. I ended up calling Sena and one of the engineers there spent an hour on the phone with me in an effort to finally figure it out. At the end she was successful and it works perfectly. Rather than try to explain it myself I will copy here an email she sent me afterwards highlighting what we had done. At the end is a link to the actual phone conversation.

Anastassia Tolpygo, Oct 26 17:13 (PDT):
Hello Marc,

I am so relieved that we got everything to work.

As a quick summary, we paired to the bike first using the regular pairing method below:

1. Turn on the SMH5 and press the Phone Button for 5 seconds until
the LED flashes red and blue alternately and you hear multiple
beeps. You will hear a voice prompt saying ?Phone pairing?.
2. The dongle will search and find the headset once the bike turns on.

Once you have successfully paired to the bike, we can move to the phone using HFP selective pairing for phone calls only:

1. Turn on the headset and press the Phone Button for 5 seconds
until the LED flashes red and blue alternately and you hear multiple
beeps.
2. Within 2 seconds, tap the Phone Button again, then the LED turns
to blue flashing and the beeps turn to multiple mid-tone beeps. You
will hear a voice prompt saying ?Phone selective pairing?.
3. Search for Bluetooth devices on your smartphone. Select the Sena
SMH5 in the list of devices detected on your phone.
4. Enter 0000 for the PIN. Some smart phones may not ask for PIN.

I also recommended both resets if the above didn't work.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns or problems.

Thank you,

Thanks Marc. Another example of why this is the best Victory owners site. Thank you.
