Posts: 1365 Central Maryland | I'm getting some "buzzing" with left rear speaker; and I think that I need to insulate the speaker a little better against the trunks body.
Is there a quick and easy way to get at the left rear speaker; or do I need to disassemble half of the damned bike to get to it? I have the Vic manual online, but it is not clear on how to disassemble the top half of the trunk; to get to those rear speakers. |

Posts: 1365 Central Maryland | Well... I glanced it it today; but did not investigate it in detail. I'll look tomorrow. Didn't see an easy way to pop the cover; unless that's actually what one would do. |

2. Remove 2 screws with allen key
3. Slide speaker cover off
It's real easy. |

Posts: 1365 Central Maryland | Well gentleman.. thanks...it was "easy as pie" and I got a good look at my left rear speaker. Nothing is amiss with the mounting of it... I think the speaker diaphragm may be fried.... it pulses with sound; but buzzes but I can't seem to discern why it's doing that. I would surely like to replace these stock OEM suckers with something better that is "plug -n- play" I'm not an audiophile but I like my music (classic rock) sharp and loud and deep; and I believe that the Vision's radio unit has more than enough wattage to push a better aftermarket speaker.
Any recommendations for me? I'd rather not have to do any major surgery on the speaker housing if at all possible.

Thank you! I will give those a try. They look like a perfect fit to the Vision application. I'll worry about the front one's later. I don't have any issues with the front sound dynamics in the Visions cockpit at this time; but the rear one(s) has to go! |

Posts: 499 Chattanooga, TN | I got mine off eBay and they are marine grade so no worries about riding in the rain. I think Jedi or someone had an issue with theirs and just resolderd one of the connections to the tweeter or something like that and all is well, again. I haven't had any problems with mine, had them over a year with a good quality amp instead of a hearing aid. So you can always upgrade your system if you desire in the future. Good luck!

Posts: 1365 Central Maryland | Some days you just know not to do anything to your bike.... :-(
Worked early this morning and am dog tired (On Calll from work this weekend) so decided to unwind by replacing the OEM rear speakers with the Polk audio db521 that I received yesterday.
In the process of remove the left rear speaker grill ; I dropped the allen wrench into the hole behind the speaker and the bike has simply devoured it. I have looked everywhere with small flashlights; magnetic retriever and mirrors; pulled off the seat and still cannot find that fricken little allen wrench. Unbelievable; probably wedged in tight below one of the rear panels; and I'm in no mood to disassemble all of that.
The the Polk speakers came without gaskets and they won't mount securely into the trunks speaker holes; the OEM fasteners (the little spacer which the screw passes through really is not large enough to adequately stabilize the new speakers with the mounting screw; and the bikes negative electrical connector fits very loosely on the speakers spade connector; despite my efforts to squeeze it down some. Grrrrr.....
I just put it all back together and when I am in a better mood; more rested and have some sort of gasket, better fasteners and connectors; will tackle this seemingly simple job again in the near future.
Grrrrrrr.... |

Posts: 1365 Central Maryland | Ya... well... got 'er done finally. Went to Lowe's and picked up some small nylon spacers, small washers and some 3/8" moderate compression weatherstripping. Squeezed down on the connectors to tighten 'em up a little more; for the speaker's negative spade connector.
They sound pretty good. Why can't Victory install quality speakers; instead of the OEM crap I just tossed in the garbage?
Wonder if these Polk Audio db521's will fit in the front fairing speaker holes... as well?

Posts: 1365 Central Maryland | Yer welcome Not a hard job; once you have all the bits that are needed. The speakers (both OEM and the Polk Audio) have 4 points where you could screw them down; but the Vision's engineers must've decided that two screw points were only needed... I was going to drill two additional holes (for each speaker) and install screws and spacers but decided not to push my luck today.
One knows how sometimes a drilling idea/operation can go awry....
If you have the trunk mounted; unscrew the 3 hex bolts from the inside of the trunk; that hold the passenger's backrest on as well. Gives you a lot more room to see the wiring and such.

Yes they will but not without their own little pain in the rear problems.
The hard plastic surrounds that protect the backsides of the front speakers will not accomodate the larger magnets on these polks. Many have used heat guns to reshape the surrounds so the speakers will fit. I had a heck of a time doing this and ended up butchering the surrounds and insulating them with dynamat.
They work, just don't expect a simple drop in. |
