Posts: 30 Leighton, IA | Apparently the Vision and I were not made for each other. In an earlier post, I complained about rear end discomfort while on a trip to Eureka Springs, AR. I tried a few seat pads and settled on purchasing an Air Hawk hoping that this would solve my situation. For a while I thought that the problem was solved. Then my son and I went on a trip to Yellowstone and did 700 miles on day 1. Pella, IA to Rapid City, SD. By the time we got there, I was one hurting unit. The next day we rode to Cody, WY which is only about 400 miles. I couldn't get off the bike soon enough to suit me. Tried different postures, different air settings on the Air Hawk, even a different butt pad I took along just in case. All to no avail.
The next day we went into Yellowstone and saw a number of awesome sights. So we rode about 250 miles getting off and on quite a number of times. By the time we got back to Cody, my discomfort level was considerable. Not being able to get reasonably comfortable on a long tour, makes the days long and is very tiring.
Bottom line, on the way back home, we detoured to Storm Lake, IA and I traded the bike at Storm Lake Honda for a used level 3, 2008 Gold Wing. As a result, the 200 mile ride home was absolute bliss. No hurting behind. I loved the Vision but it didn't love me. I figured out that the vibration of the seat is what I couldn't tolerate. So I'm happy to be back on a GL1800.
So there is a very nice 2013 Victory Vision available at Storm Lake Honda. I've bought a number of bikes from this dealer and I can't say enough good about them. Every time I've dealt with either Larry or Jeff, I've felt that I've been treated with respect and honesty.

Posts: 499 Chattanooga, TN | The wings are nice, but they have NO legroom to speak of for a 6'3" rider like myself. I've had 3 knee surgeries and one back surgery recently. I also have an inherited genetic disease called Noassatall which causes me to be unable to sit still for periods of time exceeding 3.5 minutes, and I did an Iron Butt ride on my Vision a while back, went over 1100 miles in 19 hours or so. But, to each his own. The important thing to you is not my comfort on my bike, but yours. Wish you the best. |

Posts: 804 Perry Hall, MD | While I use a beaded seat cover, which I highly recommend, many of my miles have been without it in a wide variety of conditions and the only time I experienced any discomfort it came from the design of my underwear (seams in the wrong places). Have to wonder if clothing when combined with the difference in seating posture may have been a contributing factor. Having experienced a very sore butt on my last bike I can sympathize with the desire to do whatever was necessary to keep from going through it again. Just so hard to believe that vibration was the cause, and that there wasn't another solution, but the important thing is that Jaap is riding and happy. Enjoy the new ride! |

Posts: 494 Akron Ohio area | I've had 2 back surgeries and now have 54,000 miles on my 2011 Vision.
I've ridden over 1,000 miles in a single 24 hour period 7 times with many more 800+ mile days.
4 times I've ridden the 1360 miles between Akron and Key West Florida inside of 24 hours.
The stock seat on my Vision is the most comfortable seat I've ever had on a motorcycle.
Good luck on your wing. |

Posts: 16 Grafton, Oh | I have seen many write how the vision seat is the most comfortable seat they have ever been on. I just came off 10 years of an 03 wing. My personal opinion is the seat on the wing was more comfy, but I far prefer stretching out on the vision. I will eventually replace the seat(more for the love of my life as she says the seat isn't near as comfy), but I can appreciate the need to ride what suits you. My personal opinion is these are the only 2 bikes in their class.
Enjoy your wing. |

Posts: 208 Wichita, Kansas | The stock ViVi seat is very comfortable, but the standard foam is prone to pressure points for some people, myself included. So I had my foam redone with wheelchair grade memory foam which distributes weight more evenly. Voila! Problem solved. But, it's very dense and 105 degree days are interesting after it's been in the sun for 8 hours - it can literally blister your a** (as I found out). So I added a top sunshade and carry a sheepskin during the summer. Works like a champ. |

That sounds like a great idea. Im 6'2, and 255 and there are some pressure points for me as well. Definitely not to the point of selling my vision.
Does it really get that much hotter due to the density? What is a top sunshade?
Thank you! |

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | I do have to wonder if the vibration in his seat might have been something loose or something else when the bike was put together.. I must say the vision is the ONLY bike out of a sea of bikes i have owned where i actually KEPT the stock seat!! I have owned 2 vision's and i had NO desire to get rid of the seat... I did a Iron Butt worth of riding on my 08 and i did almost the same on my 11. The only think i did add was a utopia back rest.. like i said. i have to wonder if something was "wrong" with the bike.... |

Hello Jaap,
Sorry to hear that you couldn't make it work. Having had the same issue you had on the Vision with my Goldwing, I understand completely. We will have to meet up again sometime.
I am too Larry. I wanted it to work. But as you know it didn't go good from the beginning. Obviously it cost me some to get the trade done but I felt I didn't want to spend a bunch more money trying to make it work. Cut my losses and move on, I guess. I rode the bike about 8000 miles so I feel that I gave it a good test FOR ME.
I certainly would like to meet up again with you guys. It doesn't matter what anyone rides, I believe. It's not about brand. It's about riding.
Most of the responses to my post reflect that and I appreciate the encouraging comments. The occasional comment that was dismissive and borderline rude will be happily ignored.

Posts: 208 Wichita, Kansas | Ditch, The sun cover is just a bike cover that is basically a small sheet of cover material with 4 corner loops which snaps on and off in a few seconds but doesn't go low enough to melt on the engine. Keeps the summer sun off your sea t and makes a BIG difference. See here and look around ebay. Under $20 and folds up small.

And yes, if you have a gel pad or high density foam they will get HOT and carry a LOT of heat. It was 109 here Tuesday and a friend has a gel seat on his Wing and learned a real lesson in thermodynamics. I also carry a small sheepskin pad I cut from a seat cover I bought in a garage sale. Suede back holds well and really helps if I get delayed and didn't use the shade. |

Posts: 49 Fort Defiance, VA United States | After 36 years of riding, one thing I've determined is that everyone is different. For me, I experienced the exact opposite. I rode a 2005 Goldwing for 3 years and 32,000 miles and never could get comfortable on that damned thing. I had the seat custom built twice, backrest, different highway pegs, and bar risers and still couldn't get comfortable. In fact, that is the SOLE reason I sold the Wing and bought the Vision; for comfort. Other than the lack of comfort, I loved the Wing. Great engine, smooth, powerful and handled great, but again, for me I just could not get comfortable. I always felt cramped on the wing and I'm a small guy at 5'7 and 170 pounds. i've now owned the Vision for 3 years and have ridden cross country twice and I'm totally comfortable. Best of luck to you and glad the Wing works better for you; I guess that's why they make different bikes. Joel |

Joel,
You then know exactly what was I talking about. I would have to do the same thing with the Vision you did with the wing. I rode the bike about 8000 miles and I decided I wasn't going to spend hundreds, if not thousands, to have a custom seat built and find out that it wouldn't work after all.
Your story is the same as mine except for swapping bike names. You're right, everyone IS different. |

Good point. Among other things, I'm a trucker and a biker. I learned the hard way to get EVERYTHING out of my hip pockets when spending long hours in the saddle. It does make a big difference.
