I didn't say that but thought the same thing. IF that's true the trooper needs to face charges If it's against the law in Ohio. I don't know the laws concerning cells phones and driving in Ohio. |

There are many things that could have helped prevent this tragedy. The officer paying closer attention is obviously number one, brighter tail lights, reflective clothing, etc.
I would submit that one of the things that may have helped in this situation is louder pipes.
I have said it before and will say it again: Loud Pipes Saves Lives!

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | In the video I could clearly see the motorcycle and passenger. I would imagine being "more visible" wouldnt matter if that person is not looking. ... you could have flashing lights, reflective vests, etc. If that driver is too busy playing angry birds on their phone it doesnt matter...

Yes, I basically agree with that. My only point with those items was perhaps the officer looked up a few seconds before the motorcycle came into view, then looked away and smashed into them. Maybe flashing lights and reflective vests would have been visible from a greater distance.
It's dangerous out there, so whatever we can do in order to be seen/safe should be considered and evaluated by each individual rider.
Just to be clear, from what I see this is 100% the officers fault. But that is of little comfort laying in a hospital bed.

I concur. A rumble from up ahead may have pulled that Trooper's head out of his ass; to look up and see what he was about to hit. |

Posts: 212 Tavares, Fl | Look into every cruiser and to the right of the driver you'll see a computer screen where they receive calls and other information that used to be broadcast over the radio...This is very distracting especially if there is a long narrative being displayed.... |
