I have an all black vision, wondering what the best thing is to clean and polish the plastic is?

Do any of the "black" polishes work well? They claim to remove swirl marks as well as polish.

I use ProtectAll. it is a cream formula in a squirt bottle that is found in the RV section at WalMart. I use it with microfiber towels, one to clean, one to buff. I use it on every surface except tires and it has worked flawlessly on my bikes and cars for years. Good Luck!

I like the Wolfgang products that I use for the cars as well as the bike. Not Wolfgang Puck hahaha, but Wolfgang car products based out of Germany. I like the man made sealant vs the traditional carnuba-based polish. It is professional grade stuff, works unlike anything I have used before, but pricey and can only be purchased over the internet at my neck of the woods, like Amazon. It is also designed to be applied with a buffer, but I have found it works just fine if applied by hand on the bike. I use Mothers chrome polish for the chrome on the bike. Have fun.

Plexus. It doesn't actually polish out scratches (so it doesn't make new ones,) it puts a coating over everything filling them in. It was created for making lexan windows on planes not show swirling and scratches. Nothing will make black plastics look better.

Pledge, really? I wouldn't have thought of that, how did you come to use pledge on the bike?

Can you get this stuff locally, bike shop or?  I see a 13oz can on amazon is $22

Sounds like it would be great on the windscreen and visor as well !

Pledge here also.
When I saw them using pledge on aircraft windshields, and asked about it, they said they use pledge when they can't find the cheap stuff. The cheaper the better. No scratches, no swirls. Wax on Wax off.

Pledge or similar spray on furniture polish from the dollar store. Use it on the windshield and plastic. Windex for the chrome.

I use Honda polish but if I cant find it, any dollar store furniture polish has done wonders on both plastic, metal, and chrome.

Polish, wax and synthetic sealants are different products for different needs.

First off, the clear coat over your paint is a plastic compound, and can be polished a finite number of times before it is worn through.Secondly, if you are trying to remove swirl marks and haze (oxidation), using the finest grit polish (by hand (unless you are a professional, with the proper equipment) will give you the best results, and will also remove the least amount of clear coat. Finally, if you already have polished your clear coat and are wanting to preserve your gloss, any good automotive (non abrasive) wax or sealant will work well.

"Black polishes" often contain a black pigment, which seems to me to be more of a gimmick than useful. If your cllear coat is damaged or worn, there is no substitute for have new clear coat. The more clear coat, the more you can polish it.

For daily touch up, the detailing sprays (Pig Snot, McGuires Quick Detailer, Candy Coat, Plexus, etc) are preferred by professionals because unlike products like Pledge, they do not have aggressive solvents to lift the previous layer of spray coating, they are more gentle to the underlying clear coat. Solvent based products that have solvents dry out the clear coat, requiring constant use in order to keep the finish glossy and to have the appearance of being sealed. Personally I use Plexus on both my windshield and clear coat, as both are "plastic".

IMO, of course...

Buddahead; from what I understand about the Vision's clearcoat... it is very soft and does not represent the typical; hardened and cured clearcoat found on other vehicles.

I think over time; no matter what you use; wax is going to be the primary protective coating on the Vision's plastics, not the factory applied clearcoat.

I first heard of it in 1980 from some folk that had GL1000. Worked great then and still works great. There is silicon in it & it penatrats paint & protects,  if you plan to repaint your bike don't use it. I'v heard you will have a hard time getting the paint to stick. I used it on the brushed aluminum on my 09 Blue Ice and they had a hard time getting the clear coat on my consle to stick. Guess I did it extra often with the Pledge    Works great on Chrome too!

Meguiars's Plast X for the tough jobs. I use it to get bugs off the windshield and headlight too:

Micro fibre towels are the most important item in my book. I do use Turtle Wax Blue Ice nano wax. My Vision is black with graphics (Ness).

Thanks for all the replies.

I used Bike Spirits on the Kingpin, and it works fine on the Vision except for a few pesky "smudges" that just don't want to buff out. I think I'll clean the bike really well and then put a good base coat of wax on it and then continue with the bike spirits.

I would give the Wolfgang stuff a try. German Engineering... It's commercial grade professional detail stuff designed to be applied with an orbital buffer, but can be applied by hand as well. I use the 3.0 sealer and mothers chrome polish for the rest. Autogeek.net has a 25% off sale with free shipping to boot. Here is the link to the wolfgang stuff since you cannot pick it up at any of the car places.

Here is what the Wolfgang product looks like on the bike. Can be applied once every spring and you're good to go. I only use water and no soap when I wash the bike and look things over to make sure nothing is loose. This is my 09 Vision.
