Posts: 49 Madison/Huntsville, AL | I'm calculating some real low mpg on my Vision. Let me preface by saying I should expect to get as low of mpg as anyone ever considering my riding conditions lately. I haven't gotten out on the open road much in the winter weather, so... I ride most all 'city'. My commute to work is very short. Very short. Less than 3 miles I think. I like to warm the motor up a long time, particularly in the cold. (0mpg) I like to hot rod. A lot. (that's one reason I warm up a long time before my real short trips) So, I'm calculating 25-27mpg the past few tanks. That's real math, not the onboard computer. Any thoughts? |

|
my real math comes out to be 42 to 44 mpg and I hot rod to but ride more then 3 miles. Short mileage bike never warms up enough

Posts: 1229 Rancho Cucamonga, CA | I consistently average 35-37mpg. I only get 40mpg if I keep it under 75mph the entire tank. Wintertime mpg is always worse, partly due to the 'winter gas' and partly because the lower fairings stay flared more and the windshield stays up. |

Posts: 323 Troy, NY | When I do some my short commute to work in December at 25 degrees....my MPG go way down to the lower 30s. During the summer I get close to 40. I have never been in the 20s and I got most of Lloydz add-ons. I like to accelerate but not drive at high speeds.
You might be running super rich. Did you check your spark plugs and see if they are all sooty? |

Posts: 880 Orlando, FL | When I first got the Vision I got "never checked". But then as time went on I started to get "who the F cares". Lately, things have changed, and I am now getting "it doesn't really matter". I remember when I was searching for my next ride. I looked at everything (or so I thought). Seat Height, reliability, comfort, handling, performance, etc. etc. And in the end I choose the Vision. After taking it for a ride not much else mattered. But I am now sad, as I realize that I never compared gas milage when looking at other rides!! Damn it all~! WHAT WAS I THINKING?? I might have bought an HD Ultra Glide! Nah.......Just kidding!

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Even when I ride hard, in city, hard take offs and the such, I get about 36, in the winter, a little lower. Most of the time I get about 40-42 and my dash calculator has always matched the actual mileage when I do the math. I give the dash a quick look to see where I'm at. If I was getting 29mpg, I would think something was out of whack and needs correcting. |

Even in my cage I see a 10% or more from just from using winter fuel. The short miles also hurt. My winter mileage is in the mid 30s compared to 42ish on summer fuel.

Posts: 118 Spfld, IL but temp Bay area, CA | My mileage has dropped since I had cams installed a little over a year ago.
Ever since the 1st time it was started after the cam install, it has an extremely fast idle if you touch the accelerator before the bike warms up--probably for 1-2 minutes. Consequently, 1st thing in the AM, I start it and let it run for a minute prior to getting on and taking off.
I used to get 40-44 but am now down into the 35-38 range most of the time.
I may hit 40 on a strictly highway tank and keeping it under 80.
I consider this a small price to pay for the added performance the cams give. |

You're talking about a Victory Vision, right? Not a Suburban? I don't think I could get 17 mpg if I let it "warm up" for an hour and was at full throttle and 100 mph all the time. Are you sure that's accurate? Did you only fill up the tank 1/2 way? |

Posts: 1308 Sand Rock, AL United States | first of all, if I lived 3 miles from my work, I would move to at least 25 miles away preferably more for Vision owners. To answer your question , I get between 38 and 42 average. I only run 100% pure gas in it. 87 octane in the winter , 100% pure high octane in summer. |

it ISNT your winter blend.. its actually the summer blend that is Bad.... Winter fuel lacks the extras they put in for pollution..

My vision take between 10-15 miles to be Officially warmed up . i base this on the oil temp dip stick. 10 miles on a 70F+ degree day.. if is 50F i can make it home from work , and its not even warmed up completely... now keep im mind... im not riding it like im being chased by the police either... going with the flow of traffic.. |

Please read up on gasoline blends from at least one other source. I just did that and almost all agree on what the real difference is. The thing they do in winter is include far more Butane in the gasoline blend than in summer. The EPA limit on volatiles in summer is the reason they keep them low at that time of year. In what way is a volatile with a vapor pressure of 52 psia, more than 3 atmospheres, a better fuel than not having much of it present? Butane contains less energy than other gasoline components and a fair fraction of it will evaporate before I get to burn it.

My fuel controller isn't working, but I already know that and didn't want to start a thread about it. I'm curious why the motor runs as well as it does and it appears the the 'default' when the FC is dead lies in running rich. That, in theory, means I'm powerful (not optimal) but burning a lot of gas. And, that's what it feels like as well as what my gas bill says. It's all academic though. I gotta get a working FC. Thanks
