| has anyone had an adverse reaction to the seat and to wind when the windshield is down from their passenger. my girlfriend is 5'-10. we rode 800 miles to va and back this weekend and she says she has whiplash from the one hour i spent at 65 mph with the shield down. she also says the seating position is poor and causes her back to hurt. seems i woud get more wind than she would and i didnt notice any problem but she hates it and is starting to dislike the bike. i noticed a lot of distortion at the top 3" of the windshield and put it down when we were on the winding part of the trip.
anyone know of an aftermarket seat without the upsweep at the back edge. she says it is uncomfortable. she rode 1700 miles to sturgis last year on the back of the ultra without a complaint so i have to wonder if she has a point. |

Posts: 136 CALGARY ALBERTA | I have had many HD E glides and my last was the 07 Streetglide. My wife says she will never ride on the back of an HD again after the Vision.
She is 5'8"
I have chronic arthritis in all of my body with my back being the worse area. I have yet to feel the bike bottom out or give me a shock load to the back.
The wind envelope of the Vision is bar none, one of the best in the market. My vote is for BEST. Hmmmn, I'm not sure what she is trying to tell you???

Better with the 2" taller windshield for the passsenger. For the sore back, did you try passenger floorboard riser blocks? She likes! She complained of a sore back without them, allthough still to take a long ride since installation, she likes them on the smaller trips so far. She also misses the '03 Voyager IIV |

Posts: 600 Linwood, MI | My wife is 5'2 and absolutely loves the back seat. In fact, she was the driving force in getting the bike because of that. Could the seating position be resolved with different foot placement? You could try the passenger floorboard risers or, if you already have them, remove them and see if that helps. Other than that I don't what to suggest.
As for the wind, if you do a search you'll find a thread that has a link to a company that is making different size replacement windshields specifically for the Vision. From the pics, it looks like they don't have that little bend at the top that causes the distortion. Then you could ride with the windshield up and really cut the wind for you and her. |

Your's sound the some size as mine, with the same complaints. Butt OK, sore back. Is her backbone a innie or outie? Might have to get the padding on the truck lid reworked? Planning a 3k trip for the weekend, will try different angles to her problem.

Posts: 496 Scottsdale AZ | Interesting "the girls" including mine, think its to cold, its to windy, its to hot etc. etc. However, I have heard at Highway speeds "it's to windy" with the windshield down, so exHDrider, sounds like we have the same "girl issue". My wife is 5 8" also.
My wife also has a convertible and has to have the windows up when the top is down, go figure-
Yea, I agree, Happy Wife Happy Life! |

Posts: 732 Western WA | My wife says that there is definitely a difference with the shield down. But what makes a bigger difference for her is if the wind deflector wings are folded in. She says that definitely creates an increased airflow.
But still, there is no comparison to our last bike. The Vision is a dream. She's not getting sore, or knocked around by the buffeting, just notices the difference.
As for general comfort, I do have the passenger floorboard risers installed. She said that the ride was much more comfortable after we put them on. We've had several 8+ hour rides without any discomfort for either of us. |

My wife is 5' 10" also and she made me get a 2" taller windshield and makes a big difference. Went on a 2000 mile trip and she was happy. And when she's happy...I'm happy! Worth the extra $. I keep it down until we hit over 55 then she likes it up. Abit of distortion on edges all the way down so I brig it up about an inch. It works and doesn't detract from bike's looks. |

| We had passenger hiway pegs on our previous bike. It came with floor boards, but we added the pegs and it gave her two places to put her feet. She really misses that on this bike. I know Kuryakin makes hiway pegs for Goldwing and Ultra passengers, maybe they are working on some for our's. But she does like the back support better on the Vision. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | My wife loves the ride of the Vision and will fall asleep back there. Given that I'm sure there are different ergonomics for everyone to some degree or another. I find that the Vision was built for me, though the wife might not have the same sentiments she says it is very comfortable. I had to go with the taller windshield, with her being 5'4" it works out really well and provides a great envelop. |

Posts: 117 South of Houston Tx | My wife hasn't complained, and she loves to ride with me when she has the time, her only complaint was the wind whipping her hair around but on her maiden voyage we invested in a truck-stop dew rag and since then she's been fine.
Thats all a mute point though now because suddenly she wants to get her own motorcycle instead of riding on mine. For 25 years I couldn't talk her into learning to ride, but in the short time I've had my Vision she's decided thats the thing to do now. |

Posts: 171 San Antonio, Texas | My 5'8" wife definitely wants the windshield fully up when she rides--says it makes a major difference to her riding comfort. She also prefers the side wings fully out. that way she gets max protection from the wind. I ride with the shield about 3/4ths down when alone and that works for me. The increase in height with the foot risers may make the difference in rider comfort on the back seat by adjusting the riding position overall. |

Posts: 506 Woodland Hills, CA | My girlfriend has been struggling a bit on the back seat as well, although not so much because of the wind. Since I am 6"-4" I got the tall windshield option, so that may be the difference. I have asked her if she prefers it with the windshield up, but so far she says its not that much different for her, but then she rides with a face shield on her helmet. So I usually end up riding with the windshield down, and it seems to work for her (so far with just under 1500 miles or riding).
She is also says she is not as comfortable as she is on my Road King (with touring seat and tour pack). She likes the straighter back of the Harley as she feels this gives more support to her back. She also doesn't like all the extra room on the back of the Vision (go figure!). She feels more secure when she is fitted a bit tighter in the seat. I just had the Utopia backrest installed which seems to have made a big difference to her (and me as well!). She likes the way it helps "secure" her in the seat, and gives her something to rest her legs against. And as long as she rides with a jacket, she doesn't seem to mind the seat back, although we have yet to test it on a long ride. If she still has a problem with the seat back, I will likely have someone make a different, and straighter back to better suit her ergonomics.
By the way, my girlfriend is 5'-6".
Anyway, you may want to try the tall windshield option and see if that helps. I agree about the distortion at the top of the windshield (which hits me right in the middle of my eyes when fully up), so I am really not inclined to want to ride with it fully up unless I need to for weather. Also, maybe some sort of face shield may help as well. As far as adjusting the wind deflectors as mentioned by others, this an interesting idea that I have not tried. So far I have only ridden with them open, but I will check it with them closed and see what difference there is for her.
Good luck.

| thanks to all. any future thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated. i'd kinda' like to keep her. looking at a 1400 mile trip later this month and it would be nice if she is able to go 2 hours or more. i'll try putting the upper deflectors all the way out 90degrees to the frame. i think the web site for the windsheld is cee bailey. i looked at it. they go 4" taller. not sure what the foot peg risers would do since she is 5"-10". she does miss the passenger highway pegs and floor boards on the ultra. |

| Next ride have her put a pillow behind her upper back so she is sitting straight up instead of leaned back. My wife had a similar complaint having ridden on Harleys for the past decade. My wife is also quite tall. The HD trunk sits the passenger more upright so two things happen. One the wind doesn't get UNDER the lid and beat the heck out of them, and two it sets them flat on their butt instead of on the tailbone. My wife has an AirHawk square passenger pad that she uses as a upper back support pillow now instead of sitting on it. I'll probably have the seat shop in town reshape my passenger trunk pad so the top is thicker to sit her more upright without the need for a pad/pillow before next summer. Hope this helps. |
