I just replaced my rear pads in my 2008 Vision with EBC FA196HH and they wear dragging a little afterwards. So I figured they would just burn in, well yeah they burned in alright. I pulled it a part just to make every thing was seated correctly and no issues there. I then notice that pads got really hot and turned a little blue. However, now they are squealing and still dragging. Anyone ever experience this? Before I replaced them it was fine, no drag or squeal just worn.

I did both my front and rears this weekend. I did notice that the rear had both a metal shim and a spacer plate installed from the factory only on the inside rear pad. I removed both pieces and re-installed them on the new pad with a bit of AGS Sil Glyde brake lubricant. Seem to be fine, no squeaking. The fronts had the metal shim only on the inside pad. No spacer plates.

I did remove the calipers from the wheel in order to facilitate sliding the inside pads into the locking tabs.

Its important to make sure the brake caliper is completely decompressed to accommodate the new larger brake pads. You can either use a flat head screw driver very carefully or all auto parts places sell a caliper decompression tool for a few bucks.

I would also recommend a brake cleaner to clean off the rotors and maybe a very fine grit sand paper to clean up the rotor if needed. The pads should go on dry without any brake pad lube.

VB - a lot of good advice so far. Be methodical in check the brakes. If you compressed the caliper piston before removing the old pads, you should be good in installing the new ones. There is some clips/springs in the caliper that if they fall out of place may cause the problem. Check and make sure you have no play in your "floating" rotor", if there is a lot of side play, it will vibrate causing the heating issues. After you install the brake pads and pumped the brakes, with the wheel off the ground, rotate the wheel to see if there is any unnecessary drag. The wheel should spin after letting go. Do not ride until all seems well with the wheel in the air. Also, never ever remove the caliper from the carrier assembly. If you replace the caliper, replace the whole assembly. If you did disassembly it, don't panic, it will just take some work to get all the rubber booties back into place and all is working well.

Very good advice. Dont ride the bike if the brake pads are dragging! How long did u ride it like that? Even though the VV has a heavy duty rotor not sure if there could have been some damage by having the brakes essentially ingaged the whole time. The fact you had some bluing would mean you generated a ton of heat in the process
