Motorcyclist latest issue has an article and 4 pictures from the in house design competition. The new engine appears to be a DOHC design ala V Rod, Judge chassis, and wider V configuration. I'm not real warm to Vic putting a douche bag on a Vision but I certainly would like all the advantages of it ala higher compression, quiter smmoother engine operation, longer engine life, ect, ect, ect..What say you ?

I remember a discussion about this on a different thread when there were some leaked sketches. I also know that Harley had to go to water cooled heads so they could meet emission standards. Let's just hope the engineers can keep the bikes as nice as they are now, and be real happy that we have our wonderful bikes now.

Harley new water cooled heads are cracking. They did not do it cause emission but more to keep rider cool from the motor heat

I hadn't heard about the heads cracking, but the article I read said it had to do with emissions. Regardless we don't have to worry about Harley heat or emissions.

I never understood the hipe about the emissions and V-twin air cooled engines.

They have to run a little rich at WOT to curb detonation, hence emissions. I read the pop mechanics article, which is a little different than the one that I read when I worked at a manufacturing facility. I suspect that both are true, but heat control is easier to sell than emissions.

They still exist, but they're dying off. Almost all of them have gone to 4-stroke, only a few European enduros and trials bikes left.

Odd choice putting the radiators right in front of the rider's legs if that's the case.
