Posts: 29 Strongsville, Ohio | I have searched this forum for problems similiar to this one. Can't seem to locate exact problem.
At idle and especially at 25 to 35 mph, the top black dash cover behind the windshield atop of the gauges vibrates like there's no tomorrow (though this is my best guess from where it originates from).
Of course at the dealer all was well and they couldn't hear or feel it. No surprise here!
Cruising down a smooth road this evening after dinner (we go out a lot lately since getting the Vision), something was banging constantly up there. Tried applying my hand on top of black dash and it seemed to stop momentarily. Back home, the dash seems tight.
Any comments shall be appreciated on what to check.
Thanks,

The upper dash snaps onto the lower assembly and is also secured with (4) 4mm Allen bolts. There is nothing inside the upper and lower dash (unless you put something there, as a few of us have). I suspect that it if were to come unseated, you would be able to see it rattle. Maybe not, since it is all black. If you raise your windshield and pull your fuse covers, you will expose the other 2 hidden 4mm bolts. The bike kit has a 4mm Allen wrench. First thing I would do is firmly press the upper and lower dash together to see if it will snap together. Second thing I would to is unbolt the upper dash and try reseating it in the same fashion I just mentioned. You shouldn't need to remove the windshield to do this. If none of this resolves the issue, I would probably pull the upper dash off completely and inspect it for damage. I have read in a recent thread that there has been a problem with the injection molding process causing a crack on another part of the bike. If you do want to completely remove the upper dash, lower the windshield and unbolt the lower, horizontal motor track mount (it is a single 6mm Allen with a Nylock nut, the bike kit also has a 6mm Allen wrench). The windshield can then be swung up (it will still be attached by the upper windshield supports) and you can maneuver the upper dash (un-snapping it up and then side to side to clear the windshield). Be sure to support the windshield if you do this. It's natural tendency will be to "flop" backwards if you unscrew the motor mount. If you choose, you can also take the windshield off with the 4mm bolts that attach it to its mount. It can be a pain to get back on though (unless you have a helping hand, which I hate for some unknown reason). I hope this helps. If not, then the rattle must be coming from a different area of the bike.

Posts: 2027 Brighton, TN | I have been hearing a rattle or cracking sound at cruise. Normally only when it is down. I am pretty sure the windshield is flexing along with the joint where it pivots to raise or lower the windshield. As I raise the windshield it seems to have run out of lube in this area and is now slightly hanging when raising the shield, gotta put some lube on it. |

It hasn't made that 25-35 MPH rattle since. From what I remember, I told them to cruise steady
@ 30 MPH in 3rd gear to experience it.

Posts: 117 South of Houston Tx | I hear my windshield (I Think) rattle about there, never bothered me enough to pursue a fix. If you check into it make sure all the bolts that the previous posters mentioned, when I got my Vision the left speaker cover part of the dash was loose at the top corner above the mirror and the mirror on that side vibrated while the right was rock steady. I had the dealer look at it and after trying to tighten the mirror bolts the tech found that some washers were missing from the bolts. He fixed the mirror and the bezel but since then my wind deflector fell of that side while cruising down the road, and just this past weekend I was mounting my GPS and while pulling off the cluster bezel I noticed that the mirror-speaker bezel wanted to come with it and I had to hold in on that to separate them, once apart I found that the bolt, holding that end of the mirror-speaker bezel on, was missing. I don't know how much of this thing is put together at the factory and how much is put together by the dealerships make-ready dept., but it would be a good thing to check all the nuts and bolts if you have rattles or looseness. |

I agree! While trouble shooting the problem when my ingnition switch failed at mile 83, I discovered a number of fasteners that were not much more than finger tight. I also found that whoever was responsible for assembly had apparently never heard of loctite.
If you've ever owned a Harley this is probably habit, but my advice is regularly check your critical fasteners!
