EZ Off oven cleaner.

Spray on, let sit, wipe off.

Be careful of paint and any rubber surface but this works fast and it works on anything on the pipe.

Use a copper penny to scape off rubber boot marks. The copper is soft enough not scratch the chrome.

Crawford, I've hard that before as well, BUT I would caution anyone to avoid this practice. It does in fact scratch the chrome as does the lowest grade steel wool (contrary to suggestions to the opposite).

Brasso, a soft cotton rag, elbow grease and patience. I used it to remove melted vinyl rain pants from a buddies muffler recently.

Ive used the Easy Off before and found if you spray it on an old rag and then place the rag on the warm pipe you stand a better chance of not ruining the paint. I then used a wooden paint stirring stick to coax off the gunk. Use a new paint stir stick with good edges and its a pretty easy job.
