Mine does this all the time and probably started about the 2nd or third year of ownership. I suspect it is the clutch neutral switch and not your button on the handle bar. Since I'm usually dead wrong about everything else, then it is not this at all and entirely something else. Now that I responded you'll get someone to chime in with an entirely different answer. Starter switch p/n 4011357-067 $ 131 bucks I looked up parts on Vic's web site.
