What kind of Oil Filters other than Polaris do you guys use? Has anyone used the Super Tech brand that are made by Champion? I ordered 2 filters for my Vegas from Amsoil a while back & they sent me Wix Filters.

Posts: 3 Iowa | I have been using the Mobil1 filter (M1-110, same one probably fits the Vision) on my Kingpin, with very happy results. About $10 at the local parts store, but worth it for the peace of mind.

| I'm using the Bosch 3323 which can be purchased at any autozone for $6. The filter is painted black and the only difference I could find between it and the polaris is the drain holes are smaller diameter. |

I have been using Wix filters on my other Victory for the past 8 years. Wix is one of the premier suppliers to the heavy truck industry, as well as industrial engines and agricultural engines. I use either the 51356 or 51358. The only difference in them is the overall length. They cost around $6 or $7 at most auto supply stores around here. Amsoil did you a big favor by sending you Wix filters.

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | You can never go wrong with a Wix filter.. For a while i was using k&n ($13). K&N are great but you pay for it. and they even had a nut that makes removing the filter a breeze. Right now im using oem Victory filters because i got my hands on a few of them for cheap. Back to wix, anytime ive seen oil filter tests done Wix were already at the top.. |

I am using ST7317 (super tech) and Rotella synthetic. $20 for full change, oil and filter. |

Posts: 235 Evergreen, CO | Amsoil EAO13 is what I use, along with Amsoil Motorcycle oil. Just completed a 5000+ mile trip, twp up, fully loaded, with all kinds of riding conditions, withour changing oil or filter during the trip. Got home, changed oil & filter, and was VERY surprised how clean the oil still looked. |

The Dark Oil Myth
Dark oil does not indicate the need for an oil change. The way modern detergent motor oil works is that minute particles of soot are suspended in the oil. These minute particles pose no danger to your engine, but they cause the oil to darken. A non-detergent oil would stay clearer than a detergent oil because all the soot would be left on the internal engine parts and would create sludge. If you never changed your oil, eventually the oil would no longer be able to suspend any more particles in the oil and sludge would form. Fortunately, by following the manufacturer's recommended oil change interval, you are changing your oil long before the oil has become saturated. Remember, a good oil should get dirty as it does it's work cleaning out the engine. The dispersant should stop all the gunk from depositing in the oil pan.
The only real way to determine whether oil is truly in need of changing is to have an oil analysis performed. Since most people don't want to bother with this, it's acceptable to err heavily on the safe side and simply follow the manufacturer's recommended change interval for severe service. There are still a few cars that specify 3K intervals for severe service, but not many. If you look at countries other than the U.S., the oil recommended change interval is much higher than even the normal interval specified by vehicle manufacturers in the U.S.

I understand and agree with all that you wrote. My point is that Amsoil is already a well known and well respected oil, not some el-cheapo bulk oil special, and to have that oil remain in what at least appeared to be a fully usable state after over 5k miles tells me that the 2.5K oil change interval is most likely WAY too conservative. I use Mobil1 in my 4 wheel vehicles, along with a quality oil filter (important in my opinion), and I routinely stretch that interval to at least 7500 miles between changes. My newest car has an oil life readout, and I change oil based upon that value, which is also in the 7500-8000 mile interval.
I believe that if you use a quality full synthetic oil, and a quality oil filter, you can very easily double Victory's recommended 2.5K interval. |

I use amsoil in everything i own... At 500 miles amsoil was in the Vision. I do a once a year oci in my cars. I use the amsoil 0w30 and change the filters every 6 months. I no longer use amsoil oil filter as i have had (3) of them defective!! On my last Eao defective oil filter i said enough is enough! and i contacted amsoil directly. They called me and wanted me to send them the oil filter to be examined. well guess what.. 4-6 weeks go by i never heard anything from amsoil. then all the sudden i get a check for the oil filter and 4 qts of oil (i lost the oil on my garage floor from the defective oil filter) .. So they found it it was actually defective.
I no longer buy amsoil oil filter as i used to be a dealer for amsoil and i sold my buddy one of their oil filters and it leaked so bad it went on his rear tire and caused them to slide through a red light into traffic!. thank god he didnt get hurt. That was the 1st case of the amsoil defective oil filter i seen. then i thought that would never happen again. so it happened to another people i sold a oil filter too.. and then lastly it happened to me personally. It was on my 2005 kawasaki vulcan 2000 (2053cc). Here what amsoil foundout was, the oil filters were not Level.. when you would screw them on they werent flush to the engine. If you put a ruler on the rubber gasket you can see it..... So then i went to K&N oil filters. and now i am using victory oil filter since i bought a bunch cheap. after i use them up im not sure where i am going. I know it willbe a high end oil filter. ... |

Posts: 235 Evergreen, CO | Thanks for the input Ark...I'll be sure to keep an eye for signs of oil filter leakng on mine as well. I have one more oil change worth of both Amsoil oil and filter, which should take me well into next year. At that point, depending upon whether I experience any issues with the Amsoil EAO filters, I'll decide which filter to use. I'm really sold on the Amsoil oil, so until I can be convinced otherwise, the Vision wil be maintained with Amsoil. |

| Ark, all I would say in response to your posts is that the 106" is the 100" with bigger juggs. Since guys have been running the Vic's 5000 miles on Amsoil for quite a number of years, without any catastrophic failures, some in excess of 100k, I'd say its pretty safe to run the Vision 4-5k between oil changes (taking into account any extremes). Now you may routinely change oil at 2500-3000 but extending to 4-5k for a trip should not be a major ordeal for any bike. You know what I mean.....
I just replaced my oil and filter (Amsoil and Bosch 3323) but I think next change I'll give the Rotella syn a try. The Mobil1 wasn't any better than the Vic semi syn from MY trial run, but the Bosch filter appears to work well. |

| Definitely Amsoil, I have used it on my 8-Ball since the 5k service and have had no issues doing the oci every 5k, I'm approaching 20k and will be installing the K&P lifetime filter then, on my Vision I started the Amsoil at 2.5k and installed the K&P filter also, I will be doing the oci every 5k on it as well. |

I bought my last one at NAPA for $6.99 it is a PS1356. Dare I ask, what could I be risking?
