Posts: 175 Hinton, Iowa | I see in the 09 vic catalog the show a set of chrome rear tip over covers.
Does anyone have these yet/ Are they plastic or what? I have thought I might
take mine to get chromed this winter if they aren't to hard to get off. But if these
covers. were a good deal and not a piece of sh@*t then I might just order a set now.
All opinions welcome. Thanks, Mike |

| Mike, Your chrome guy needs to be real good at his trade. The rear tip over protectors are a cast piece made of a very porous material. I had mine chromed and they came back pitted by the porous base metal. I have seen others that were chromed and they didn't turn out well either. The best I have seen is at CycleDragon in Cerritos. Their chromer does a triple marine grade chrome (I guess the type for salt-water marine applications). Their tip overs came out like a mirror with no pitting. If I have mine cleaned up, I will take it to them for a re-chrome.
Sincerely, Tim

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | I was just wondering about the chrome tip over covers. Im glad i didnt order them yet. Since they are on back order. A few weeks ago i ordered the Chrome mirror trim and i was told the samething. Back order until October. So far i have ordered two things from Victory that needed to be returned. 1) the cup holder mount. 2) the floorboard risers. With the floorboard risers the box looked all scratched up, and when i opened it there was only ONE riser in there.. lol I called my victory dealer and said WTF is going on with their accessories. btw the chrome pieces for the rear brake res cover and the rear trunk keyhole cover is PLASTIC.... Looks good. I was just a little shocked to see they were plastic. No biggie. |

Also, the lower brake master cylinder cover is held on by silicone, no mechanical fasteners.

yeah when i installed my rear brake res cover, i believe they said to let the silicon sit for at least 24 hours before riding the bike. I was very shocked with how it was going to mount to the bike.. but it works.. |

Posts: 1324 So Cal | Non-metalic parts are chromed by first, chemically bonding a layer of copper to the piece and then chroming the copper. Aluminium falls into this catagory. I remember, in the late '70's some chromers were skipping the copper on metal parts resulting in some really lousy chrome. The tipovers need smoothed out before chroming or the rough surface will come though. |

| The chromer smoothed the surface of my tip-over protectors, but wasn't able to fill in the remaining pours. I wonder what they are supposed to do about the pours (fill in and re-smooth)? Tim

Posts: 175 Hinton, Iowa | Tim, your bike looks great. Thanks for the info. How much did your chromer charge to chrome them and how big of a pain in the ass were they to get off? Thanks, Mike |

| The dealer did it so I don't know about the labor. The job was @ $300. My bike was rear-ended by a MiniVan so while it was in the shop getting fixed, I had them do the tip overs as well. Tim
