Posts: 550 Tacoma, WA | Guys, I am looking for a backrest for my Vision Street. Does any aftermarket companies make them yet? I know Victory has one (out of stock) for the vision, to the tune of about $450. Anyone know of others?

Posts: 223 Valdosta, GA | I don't think anyone has anything aftermarket available for the Vision. $450 for the backrest from Vision isn't all that bad. The one for my wife's Volusia was around $500 and I believe the new model is upwards of $600...

I have no idea whatsoever who made the seat nor who owns the pictured Vision. It can't be somethin' *I* dreamed up or it would have been a Midnight Cherry bike. I haven't had a motorcycle in many years. I need a new toy and was lookin at vettes, roadsters, spyders, and then I discovered the Vision online. My search was over at first look. I put a deposit on a Vision at Randy's for a June delivery and have since been driving myself nuts scouring the net for every scrap of info and every image I could find. Since finding this site, I've gone completely over the edge and spend way too many of my waking hours in anticipation. Thanks a lot. Yer partly to blame.
...they're coming to take me AWAY haha.....

You may be on to something here. From the reflections on the bags, it appears these shot were taken in a very large parking area, with at least 3 other Visions in attendance.

When you do, take some pics. There might be a few people willing to make it worth your while to do more. |

Posts: 550 Tacoma, WA | I was thinking about that...I wonder, just how does the "stock" backrest attach? I know the finishing panel still is in place, so does it come out from under the rear of the seat? I definately don't want to mod that panel if I don't have to. And yes, when I make it, not only will I take pics, I will make more than one! I will also be making some risers for the passenger floorboards, too. I will need some taller than 1.5" for the G/F |

Posts: 1484 LaPorte,Tx. | I was just looking at the online catalog and the combined backrest and luggage rack is $850. Victory is really proud of those two items. Getting the trunk for the Street is only another $450. Just from the pictures of the backrest, it looks like it is bolted to the frame behind the seat somehow, it does not look like it is bolted to the seat pan like the Kingpin. |

Posts: 550 Tacoma, WA | Yah, the trunk is what I have on order, but was thinking a backrest for her while I wait would be good. They seem very proud of their add-ons, for sure! I do plan on getting all their chrome trinkets available, and when I take off my pieces, I will see about powdercoating them all black, as I have the set up for that at home, then installing them to see what a blacked out look would do for my black cherry premium. |

Wasn't close to retirement either. Really was wondering if you were close enough i could get in on that backrest. I like the looks of the street, but to take the wife need the tour pak. My old KZ1000 1977 model had a sissy bar, luggage rack that was adjustable. Basically it bolted out next to the shock mounts had a little platform (luggage rack), then it had a back pad that could slide all the way up to the driver off of two sliding poles that you hand tightened down to the distance forward you wanted. I liked it seemed easy to redo. |

Posts: 550 Tacoma, WA | I will sit down, take the seat off, and REALLY look into this over a weekend, and see just how I want to proceed. My only hitch is finding out how to mount the thing. Making it will be the easy part! I just don't want to mess up any other portion of the bike. Once I can figure an easy way to mount it SECURELY, the rest will just be comfort, and looks. I want to get into making custom stuff for Visions, as I find things that will suit me, and then perfect them so others can get them cheaper than factory, once i test them. |

Posts: 223 Valdosta, GA | So I get a call tonight from Victory concerning an issue I'm having with my handlebar volume control switch changing my radion stations and I ask him about the seat pictured earlier in this thread. After I described it to him, he knew exactly what I was talking about. He has ridden the bike with tat seat on it. Seems Victory is testing out a couple of different seat designs and we should see something soon. The biggest hurdle to getting a seat like that to market, though, is demand.
It doesn't make sense for Vic to produce an upgraded seat when the current seat is already so comfortable. It's gonna take some phone calls if you want to see a seat with a driver's backrest option. Let your dealers know you're interested and have them call VIc to see if they're working on it!!!

I too would love a backrest - this getting old thing comes with back laziness! I'm visiting a custom seat guy this weekend to see what he thinks can be done. Let's keep up the chatter so we Vic to offer one. Can't believe that wasn't part of their opening offering. |

Tim- I am currently at about 7K. I have lost 2 weeks riding due to exhaust update(S1L1) VFC III,
Lloydz air diffuser, and Dyno tuning.(courtesy of KevinX) Aluminum Panel color change is in the works(original plan was anodizing black) but aluminum panels are currently being painted super Hi-Gloss Black (courtesy Scott @Conquest Customs). Panel Removal is Major Undertaking-especially front shrouds around Motor(with lighted Victory Logos).

If you go to this link on their website http://www.utpr.com/installation.html you will see how easy it is to mount the backrest on the seat. The backrest for the Vision will mount very similarly to how it does on the Gold Wing seat which is shown on this webpage.
It will probably be tomorrow of this weekend before they have the pictures up but you can get a real good idea of what it will look like front the other pictures on their site. |

Posts: 354 20 miles west of Chicago. | I got my seat and the new Utopia backrest back from Bob this afternoon. We had a concern about underseat clearance which turned out to be baseless, the seat mouted fine with more clearance for the bracket than I would have thought just going by measurements and estimates. The backrest looks very good, and more important, very comfortable. I didn't try it out since the bike is up on lift. They should be available for order very quickly now since the prototype is done. I took a couple of photos when the battery in my camera died. As soon as I get it charged up I'll post some photos and send them to Bob for the Utopia website. He was great to do business with and I hope some of you guys will benefit. |

The real reasons the Utopia is the most purchased, as well as it's knock offs, is that 1) it doesn't use side rails that interfere with the passenger leg placement, and, 2) It's MUCH LESS expensive than getting a replacement seat with a slide in driver backrest (yeah, many of my fellow Goldwing riders are pretty cheap bastards to boot as well!) such as a Travelcade or Corbin. That said, I have both a stock seat for my Goldwing with a Utopia with the removable option, and a newer low milage Travelcade with driver backrest that is sitting on the shelf (it moved me back but took room away from my SO.) that I am selling once my new Black Tour Premium comes in. |

The Utopia Backrest is $215.00 and you can order it from Utopia Products. Their website is www.utpr.com and their phone number is on the site. Ask for Bob and tell him Craig Edland sent you. You have to cut a 1.5" long slit in the leather and they have a boot that goes around this cut that the bracket goes in. It is really clean, easy to install and looks great. This is the most comfortable backrest I have ever sat against. This is the perfect solution for the Vision. |
