Eventhough the information from Vic tells you that it both charges and plays your Ipod Nano,
it does NOT charge . Most everyone knows this, but thought Id re post it for anyone new.
There is a link on here to purchase the connector to allow it to charge, so for 40.00 you can have a simple fix.

I have gone out to ride now 3 occasions and my Ipod was dead. Until you get the fix, remember that your Ipod goes dark when not engaging any of the buttons. Dont assume that when you power down the bike, it cuts off your Ipod, it doesnt.

ride like the wind boys and girls !!

iPod Nano gen 2 and 3 charge fine, it's when you get the new gen 4 that the charging issue comes up.

We should demand that Victory provide cables that are consistent with Apple's iPod specifications so that they work with all iPods. Victory purchased an inferior 3-rd party knock-off of the iPod cable. If they had purchased the correct cable that was licensed by Apple, the USB charging would function properly.

From my point of view this is clearly a defective part caused by cutting corners and using unlicensed connectors that are proprietary to Apple.

Yeah, you'll be hard pressed to find a 3G. It's too bad. I haven't been a fan of iPod for a long time. It wasn't anything to do with Apple per se, but because I don't like the iTunes interface and DRM. There are ways around it and I have figured them out but it was time spent that I could have been doing something else with (like keeping up with you folks on the forum). I was kinda upset when I realized that my nice new iPod wasn't charging on the bike. Now I realize that the real ba$tards; once again, are Apple. They did this and now a lot of people aren't able to use their iPod powered flash lights or they can no longer use their iPod alarm clock. I can't imagine the shock and horror of the house wives/hubbies when they find out that their iPod no longer inegrates into their super-margarita/smoothie machine. Oh! The Humanity! Just think of all those empty Volkswagen iPod dock stations now that the new iPhone 3G and 4G Nano does not support them. It's sad really... Having to pay attention to the highway in a V-Dub. Do you know how little road noise you can hear in one of those things? Not hearing the hum of my tires and the jostling of my dash would put me asleep. But seriously, the new iPod sucks (the lack of firewire charging support at least), the Vision does not. I personally thought they finally had it right with the last gen of Nano. Nice, sleek, shiney chrome back. The screen was landscape when it was orientated correctly for you to control. BTW, the first thing my GF did she seen my 16GB Nano was drop it out of my truck and onto the pavement. For $200.00, they didn't even come with some sort of protective sleeve! I've been using my cheap $1 optical sock in the Vision dash. They could have at least supplied something like that! One thing that is cool is the accelerometer feature. Shaking the new iPod makes it shuffle to a new song. That's kinda cool. Until my hazardous GF decides to shake it too much and it bounces off my head and out the window... I love that chick. LOL

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention. Scosche also makes an adapter for the new iPod/iPhone. It looks a little sleeker than the other one I've seen on the forum. The bad news is that you'll have to buy another adapter to make the new Nano work. The good news is that it's only $30 and will probably be on the clearance shelf at Wally World with the rest of the Scosche stuff by X-mas :-) Here's the web addy to Schosche direct: http://scosche.com/products/productID/1667

I believe we should insist that Polaris replace our iPod cables on the Vision for correctly functioning cables.

I consider the supplied iPod cable to be defective. It is not compliant with Apple's specifications of nearly 4 years ago. This is clearly the case since it operates but will not charge current generation products. Apple released the new specification when they abandoned FireWire for charging some 4 years ago. This specification calls for the activation of the USB charging port in the 30-pin connector. If Polaris had licensed the technology they would have had this specification, if they had purchased the 30-pin connectors from a licensed supplier all iPods would charge properly.

I can only assume that the product is defective. I would like to make the case for a recall of this product.
