Nebraska | Have a new 08 Vision streen and am thinking about blacking it out instead of crome… For those of you that have done it....Did you buy it that way or have it painted or is it powder coated??
I went asking about paint and my dealer is telling me black is black and is powed coat tougher/better and does it still have the gloss.  |

Wake Forest, NC | Are you talking about powder coating your engine/pipes and other metal? Powder coating gets baked on, I doubt it would work on the pastic body parts, fairing sadlebags and trunk. Tough as nails once its on the metal parts of your bike, but costs a bit more |

Plastic can't be powder coated. Powder uses an electrical charge to get the paint to stick, plastic doesn't conduct electricity to well. Powder coating uses very high bake temps, the plastic would melt into a glob.
Black is black is black. The only difference is if it was a black metallic. Which Visions aren't.

Woodland Hills, CA | I painted mine. I didn't do the handlebars, wheels or forks, but if I would have, I would have had them powdercoated for durability. While I had mine painted (to keep things simple), I would also recommend powdercoating the tip over's as well.

Woodland Hills, CA | By the way, there is a slight difference in the finish between powdercoating and painting, but if you get a good powdercoating job, you should not see much, if any, of that difference, especially for black. |

Ruskin, Fl | I had the tipovers painted since I had a whole quart of paint. I had planned on getting them powdercoated down the road, but they are holding up pretty well and I forgot about it. I had the rear tire go flat on me and the rear tipover hit the ground in a turn and removed the paint, but I'm sure powdercoat would have been ground off too. Photos in gallery also. |

Lexington, North Carolina | I've blacked some of mine using 3M wrap. It really started as an experiment on the console. I'd been looking for some wrap that I could use after reading another thread where it'd been done. We had some cars wrapped with graphics at work and the guys left behind some black wrap. Tried it out on the console and it worked and looked so good that I thought I'd give the front access cover a shot. I'm sure it wouldn't work on everything, but I think they turned out pretty well.
