Man, I'm glad to hear you are okay and looking for another ride. Sorry to hear about your mishap and it answers a question that I never wanted to hear the answer too, what happens when you hit a deer. There was another poster that had a similar outcome and atitude. I don't think they broke a leg though. You're definetly my hero for the day. Here's to a quicker recovery and the good news you're back on the Vision. |

Posts: 965 New York State | The bike took it far better than I did. Had I hit the deer in the butt instead of the shoulder. I may have come out of it unscathed. The Bike got about $3000.00 in damage all cosmetic. I am having Chrome parts used to fix it so it will be very shiny when I get to ride again. |

Posts: 143 Sparta, WI | Deer are getting stupid this time of the year. I see way more than usual dead on the side of the road. A broken leg will heal in time. Glad it was no more than that. Wishing you a complete healing! |

Posts: 3006 San Antonio, TX | I came close to hitting a deer Monday night the third November 2008.
I was lucky, due to lane position and where the deer came out I had plenty of time to react. I was riding on the left side of the left lane on a road divided by grass with two lanes going each way.
The deer came out on the left crossing the opposing traffic while looking straight ahead at a good run. I hit the brakes hard but did not go into lockup. He did not stop and my braking had me about 50 feet short of him when he went across my lane.
There was only about 100 feet between me and the car in from of me and I was doing 50 mph when I spotted him. The Vision brakes had me shut down to 25 mph in a very short distance. I had an open lane beside me to swerve if I needed it.
Lucky for me that he just kept on going and did not stop. |

Posts: 143 Sparta, WI | I had a "Hornet Deer Whistle" on my Fat Boy and it gave me a sence of safety but let the whistle go when I traded the bike in.. Should get one for the Vision. They are only $50 and from what I have read they do work. Instead of spending the $50 on my safety I procrastinate and have not ordered one yet. |

Honest story ....the guy was working second shift at a GM plant and was taking his regular route home, which included a downward hill with a curve at the end of it. The guy rode this route every night.
Well as fate would have it, one night he rounded the curve and hit a cow in his lane...no chance to bail, put the bike down or avoid hitting it. He struck the cow in the stomach and said to this day he can still hear the sound of his HD going into the stomach of the cow (like pulling a boot out of mud) and to this day he can't stand a butcher shop because of the tallow/fat smell that was the last thing he remembers of the collision.
Cow died, HD totaled, buddy had broken arm, concussion, broken ribs. |

Posts: 266 Hartland, , WI | I'm in deer country too! This next full moon will bring the super crazy phase call the "hearding/breeding" period. The bucks will go crazy for about 8 days when the doe's go in heat....the other trigger is temps below 45 for us up here. I use to have time to go for a ride after work until day light savings took place because I refuse to be on the road at dusk...our peak.
Good luck...hope you heal straight

I am sure you will heal faster with the Vision back home.
I am feeling like a deer magnet. Yesterday a four point buck T-boned a minivan one car in front of my wife and I on the Vision. We were all doing about 35 mph when he popped out of the trees and BAM! He went down in the other lane of traffic. I helped stop traffic while another guy pulled the deer off of the road.
That shook up the wife for about 15 minutes. We left the scene had a nice ride to Boerne, TX about 40 miles away for some shopping. That always makes her feel better. |

Posts: 965 New York State | Thanks for asking Deer Crusher is home I got her back a couple days after Thanksgiving all shiny with new Chrome . It had 350 some miles on it.
I took it back the next day for the 500 mile service.I then took it over to V-Force customs where Vinny and Cody said great bike.
I was having a great time riding but then old man winter set in hard in Orange county NY.
I have the cast off . I had cut my leg off in a plane crash in 1986 it was re attached. Due to poor circulation in this area my leg is healing very slow I have a leg brace and apply a bone stimulator every day. It will heal but it is taking it's own sweet time but I can Ride and drive with no issues. I can't wait for a day without snow or ice to get back out on the road again. |

Posts: 3204 Memphis | Hey, Since you guys are getting the Vision Pilot stickers, I figured Deer Crusher needs some adornment also. Here's a nice stencil for the side of the Crusher. Four more and you're an Ace!
Seriously, how's the rehab coming? |

Posts: 965 New York State | I'm still in a leg brace I apply an electric magnet "Bone Stimulator" every day. My doctor say's it is healing my next X-ray is April 20. It could have been worse so I'm just happy I can ride. My union won't let me go back to work until the Doctor says it is OK.
Thanks for asking |
