guelph ontario | Are there any stats on how Polaris industries is doing overall and especially the Victory divison-I would think that all motorcycle manufactures are suffering due to the economic conditions. Up here in Canada I spoke with my Victory dealer and he tells me that they are doing quite well-sold 11 bikes so far in Jan and they have only 2 snowmobiles left. The local HD dealer also says that sales are still fairly robust. I think for high end motorcycles, especially the larger touring "geezer glides" that the market is also becomming somewhat saturated in any event as us "boomers" have finished purchasing our bikes and other toys after we became empty nesters. |

Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | Sign of the times: NEW YORK - Harley-Davidson Inc. said Friday it will cut 1,100 jobs over two years, close some facilities and consolidate others as it grapples with a slowdown in motorcycle sales. The Milwaukee-based company also reported its fourth-quarter profit fell nearly 60 percent, and said it is slashing motorcycle shipments in 2009 to cope with reduced demand. |
