Posts: 204 guelph ontario | Could I ask someone to post a photo of a Vision with the S1L1 pipes and one with the S1L2 pipes. I wanted to compare the appearance. Thanks |

| You can search on You Tube and both see and hear the pipes.
That's how I know that when I get mine in a few months, it'll be S1 L2. |

Posts: 204 guelph ontario | I had read somewhere that the S1L2 pipes look small on the Vision but I cant tell the difference from the photos that I see. Both the S1L1 and S1L2 look the same to me. |

Posts: 3204 Memphis | S1L2 has a bigger opening in the back but the most obvious difference is they are chrome at the end and not quite as slanted. The S1L1 uses the stock, blacked-out tips. If you look at a picture with soot on the S1L2, they are little harder to pick out.
p.s. You can't put the "Gunner" tips on these since they are one piece with the tips built in.

They appear shorter because the insert is squared off instead of slanted like stock. |

Posts: 204 guelph ontario | Thanks for the photos and explanations-it is difficult to tell the difference from any distance. Think I will go with the L2 pipes-a little more sound and from what I understand a bit better performance and throttle response. |

Hey Probie,
I rode the first 500 with my S1L1 pipes (highly recommended to allow the engine to break in properly) and then moved to the L2 pipes. I have noticed ZERO difference in the look other than the "gunner" tip IF that is what you are looking for. However, the performance and sound is much nicer with the L2's. I love 'em and recommend anyone to purchase them if they do not have plans for other after market pipes.
Later!

That is interesting to know. Is there much of a difference without the tips? |

When thinking about pipes don't forget about considering the Atom Bomb pipes http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1598&sta...

Actually if you add the gunner tips....the S1/L1 look better than stock and sound awesome. I've heard that adding the tips increases the sound as well. Nice rumble to the bike without drowning out the radio and GPS. It really rocks when you roll on the throttle! |

Posts: 3204 Memphis | Arkainzeye, You're right, the gunner tips make no difference on a stock bike because of the stock baffles. They do open up the S1L1 compared to the stock tips because the stock tip is more restrictive than the S1L1 baffles.

Exactly. The stock tips are sized to the stock holes. When you put them on the L1; you reduce the outlet size considerably |

The Thunder Sticks are available thru Arlen Ness. But you better really like the sound a lot....because they will set you back about $1850.00 Oh....don't worry about typos...there are plenty around this site...and nobody ever cares. |

The S1L1 is a replacement of the stock muffler, so it uses the same chrome cover and tip, unless you go with the Gatlin tip. So there is no wording on the cover. |

Posts: 1117 Northeast Ohio | It does change the look of the bike if you go with S2. The S2 pipes are smaller in diameter and don't fill the factory body lines that were used with the stock exhaust. We used to have a picture (i think it was the New Zealand riders) here and one of them had the S1L2s on their bike. It doesn't look bad, but you can tell it is smaller. Size may not matter to you. |

Kevin...are you saying that there is zero difference between the L1 and L2's if the L1 has gatling tips? Just wanted to make sure I read this right.
By the way I've got the S1/L1 with Gatling tips and is sure seems the bike is much better than stock. I could be dreaming though. |

| Hey Probie.
I just went with L2 from the L1 and Ilike the sound alot better. They are deeper sound and a little loader, great sound when you open them up on the road. As far as looks IMHO they look better.

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | i would get the S1L2 in a heart beat if they would take the Gatlin Tips. Almost everyday i get a biker that says he (loves me pipes) and alo they are is stock pipes with the tips.. People all the time go nutz over them tips. I have people say it looks like i have 2 guns facing back at them. Others say it makes the rearend of the bike look Mean... So i would hate to loose the tips everyone Raves about. |

Posts: 377 O'Neill, Nebraska | Well...since KevinX has indicated the the dyno results are EQUAL for the S1/L1 with Gatling Tips and the S1/L2....I"m keeping my S1/L1 set up with gatling tips.
They sound great and look awesome. Many people talk about how cool the gatling tips look and if they are identical in performance to the S1/L2's....it's a done deal. As for keeping them clean I occassionally use some chrome polish on them but I figure that a 'used gatling gun' looks like it's been fired.
To each their own. Good luck in your search for pipes because it really only matters if you like them. I didn't buy these for everyone else. |
