Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | Came across Vision 'Wood Kits' on the VOG site. They are available in several colors and grains. My car has extensive use of this stuff and I like it. I am going to do my Vision in Burled Walnut, I think. I don't recall seeing any mention of them in our Forum - hope I'm not duplicating an old post. They are available from: http://www.cycledragon.com/victory-vision-wood-kit/

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | I haven't heard back from Cycledragon on prices - but I checked out the earlier post kindly brought to my attention by Lotzafun - and the prices discussed there were $2,000 - I think $1,500 after parts credit.
And that's just bullcrap.
My Chrysler has way more pieces - and the price for that is 45 pieces for $175.00. The 98 piece kit is $304.
I know this is the same stuff - so there is no freakin way I'm paying more than 10X more for 5 pieces just cuz it's a bike. Cycledragon is buying the stuff - probably from the same people who did my car stuff - for a fraction of what they are charging.
I think I will try to find who their supplier is..... |

| Like JAM posted, more accessories. They look really nice. I have made hardwood furniture and the stuff ain't cheap. Sure it's not like dumping $1500 into the engine for 7 HP but ...... |

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | The wood in my Chrysler - is exactly that. WOOD - not vinyl. Same for the Vision kit.
And if they can do 45 pieces for $175 then there is no reason why the same stuff for a bike should cost many times more. $150 maybe for 5 pieces - NOT $1,500.
Even if they are using some wierd superglue .... |

Posts: 742 North Orange County CA | My guess is they're amortizing the cost of the CAD design time and whatever prototype work needed to be done to create a kit that will very likely sell only a couple of hundred units this year.
Chrysler sold 66,000 300's in the first 6 months of 2007 alone, creating a much bigger market to spread the costs of such a kit around.
With only 3000-5000 Visions (does anyone really know?) on the road; these kits must have to be done on a custom basis, one at a time. Also they are no doubt buying exotic wood in very small qtys. I know that a walnut guitar set (2 pcs 22"x8"x 3mm thick) can sell for close to $225.00 for the raw wood.
No disrespect to Shawn (who does nice work) or any other graphics guys but wood isnt vinyl and the machinery used to cut and finish these kits is many hundreds of times the cost of a vinyl cad cutter and Ink Jet. Also finishing in California requires companies to jump through ridiculous hoops to meet air quality standards. I bet the Chrysler kits are not made anywhere near the USA.
I have other items on my wish list that will get purchased before I would spend money on this. But I understand the cost.
If you like it, it doesn't seem like a bad deal to me.

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | I bet the prices even scare CycleDragon - I e-mailed them - as they requested - asking about pricing and ordering - ON MONDAY.
It is now Thursday and I haven't got a reply from them. Hmmmm..... and I thought business was tight and potential customers should be respected and woo-ed. Maybe I should use my nickels and call them Long-distance? Right. |
