Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Say it isn’t so there VaRyder! Yes, admittedly I am a jerk, especially when someone is admiring my Vision within four feet of me going 60 mph. I really get peeved when they are behind me coming up full bore and then they slow down and ride next to me, knowing they are looking at the bike INSTEAD OF THE ROAD! That happened to me this morning and I pulled the stall tactic and let him blow by me. Then he slows down, still trying to look at the bike, and I maneuver around him and get on down the highway. I feel like a jerk when I do this, but it is because THEY ARE NOT WATCHING THE ROAD, and to me that is the same as the folk who talk on the phone, put on makeup and so on while driving down the road. I figure if he wants to see one up close, how about going to the dealer. To further prove what a jerk I am, my friends tell me all the time that they see me, they wave at me, they honk their horns at me and I won’t look. I simply respond, “I’m watching the road as the least little distraction could cost me my life, nothing personal toward you.” Anyway, I earn the Jerk Award today!

Posts: 42 Orange County | Hey man, you are not a jerk. I know what you mean. There are people out there that innocently enough want to look at your bike, but they have never been hit by a car going 60 mph. Trust me, it hurts and you life is at risk. It happened to me and my wife, on a different ride, but you lose faith in others that know how dangerous this situation can be. Be careful and keep the rubber side down. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I'm glad my wife doesn't visit this forum, not because of the de facto porn section Motivational Posters, but because of the my admittal of being a jerk. Man, she'd have it in writing as proof, and I would be cooked. But then again, how would she really, really know it was me and not a poser. Really, I'm wondering if SongFan isn't getting kickbacks from JAM and Miles for bringing so much traffic here to Vision Riders? Well, there I go again being a jerk.... |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Actually, I do this a lot, unfortunetly, I just happened to mentioned this time from this morning as this guy was really wanting to look and I would not give it to him. I saw him flying up in the middle lane and didn't think much about it until he started hovering, I didn't want to fly up past him as I wasn't into zipping through rush hour traffic, so I checked the rear view and did a stall, but then he slowed down and the more I slowed the more he slowed, so I saw the opening in the fast lane and I swept across and was gone before he could think about it. But yes, I maintain the permanent jerk status, even stated about my friends who don't ride and think I'm in my own little world because I'm not looking for them to wave at them, even when they are right beside me. Personally, I don't think this really happens with any other bike and it has become the only annoyance that the Vision has, trying to be looked at while boxing you in unable to properly react to hazards and creating one for themselves because they have to gawk. The only time I thought that was cool was when a HD Ultra came zipping up and then rode beside me admiring the bike and giving me the thumbs up shaking his head in approval. He hung with me for about a mile or two and then he was gone back at his fast pace that he had when he pulled up long side. |

Posts: 3204 Memphis | varyder, That "kickback" comment didn't even count as a shot across the bow. By the way, the poster that was removed earlier had a typo in it and by the time I saw it and tried to fix it my edit window had timed out. It was this one (kind of fits in here):

I'm pretty sure if the wife was not with me, I would be doing some "hovering" behind her. |

Posts: 266 Hartland, , WI | My first interstate ride experience creeped-me-out a bit too, brand new bike mind you:
Just got the bike and me and the better half just got on the interstate 70+mph two lane each way, and I moved to the left lane to pass these to 20 somethings in one of those Honda Civics with the big four-into-one mufflers they stuck on the muffler to sound fast...baseball hats on backwards...sun glasses on...tunes cranking...(could have been full of the herb like I was back then)
and so we slowly go cruising by maybe 2-3 MPH faster than them...but they get all fired up when they see the bike and start waving and thumbs up, etc. all the while they are now matching the speed and creeping into my lane. I bugged out of that situation quickly but felt like saying..."dude, we are going 75 mph here and I got no doors...it's not like we are holding hands walking down the sidewalk"...
Sometimes that added attention is a bit un-nerving! |

People have no idea how nervous this makes those of us on two wheels. Even when Im in 4 wheels, I hate someone directly beside me. No where to go if something comes up. Those that dont ride dont know any better. Those that do, understand (unless they are posers). Id rather be a live jerk than a dead duck!
P.S. Songfan, NICE poster!

Posts: 3006 San Antonio, TX | Today the light turned yellow at a major access road right in front of me. I was only going 20 or so. I pulled in the clutch, cut the throttle and started applying brakes. Then I heard the engine roar behind me.
The cage behind me floored it, cut lanes to go around me, missing me by about three feet, while honking his horn!!! He thinks I am the jerk!!!!
I could not help myself. I flipped him off as he sped away and cussed at him. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest his body!
I guess a Yellow light to him means "Speed Up!"
Ride Safe.
