Posts: 127 OHIO | I placed an ad in the "Wanted section" for some parts. Another member list what I want with prices. I respond a day later and I am told that I am 3rd on the list, as two people responded to his post before me.
Since I'm the one that posted the wanted ad,,, Wouldn't you give me the first shot at purchasing? The other 2 would never had known he had parts to sell if it wasn't for me placing the ad.
I can understand offering it to the others if I had said no, or tried to offer a lower dollar amount than what he wants.
Curious to hear other members opinions, Thanks

In that case i think your out of luck. Its just like ebay, if you see something you want and there are no bids, and you decide to go take the garbage out, by the time you come back 5 others might have seen it and placed their bids.
He placed an ad rather than calling you directly. When he did that others saw it and responded first. Not really his fault, its just the way it worked out.

Posts: 600 Linwood, MI | Hmmmm... If he had been the one who posted an ad selling the items, I would say it's first served first come. But, seeing as how you are the one that asked first, and he responded to your Want Ad, I would say that you should get the first whack at the parts.
But that just my opinion and how I would do it. Ultimately, they're his parts, and whether I think it's right or wrong, he can do as he pleases.

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | Wikipedia: Caveat emptor is Latin for "Let the buyer beware". You placed the add to 'BUY' - and as the buyer it was up to you to purchase before the seller found another buyer - as is his right.
Morally - I agree with you, but if you were so kind as to lead another buyer to the seller with your add - 'so be it'. Suck it up and learn from the process. Maybe the Seller thought you were trying to under-cut him in some kind of scam.... who knows?
When I sold my last bike after buying my Vision - the first caller made an appointment to view the bike to see if he wanted to buy. The second caller said he would purchase the bike for my asking price - 'sight unseen'. I told the second caller that I already had a prospect who wished to see the bike - and that I would call him back if that person didn't buy - and I got his number. Well, the first guy bought the bike - and I immediately called the second guy to let him know it was sold. It wasn't a matter of good business - it was a matter of honor - doing the right thing..... but some of us don't act that way. Learn - and move on....

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | RedDog, I see your point and your thought, but unfortunely cannot say you have any rights to them. Courtesy is all that plays in here and as others have said, this is no guarantee to anything. Personnally, I would not have even made this post, as my opinion, nor anyone else for that matter, even matters. If I had been selling the items, I may have told the others that you inquired first, let's see what happens, especially that there was only a day difference in posting. But with all that said, there is no binding, legal requirement, even if you told him you were on your way over to get them with cash in hand, and then he sold them before you got there.

| I understand how you feel. Back long ago when i would be looking for apartments I would make an appointment and when I showed up I would be told it was rented. I felt they landlord should have called me. I am a landlord now. I go done the list of callers in order and make appointments as they would like. Some can't make it till the weekend but I tell them that others are looking at it and to call the day before to make sure it hasn't been rented. An apartment is not considered rented till I have money in hand and a signed lease. I don't want to treat others the way others have treated me. It seems to work, I have had mostly all good tenants over the years.
I think in this case the seller should have PMed you before posting a sale. Something the world is very short of today, common courtesy. We see it everyday, people not stopped for redlights and stop signs. Not stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks. Not using turn signals or granting the right of way. Today's world is like the part in the movie Nemo, "Mine, Mine, Mine...."
Hope you find the parts you need.

Fountain Inn, SC United States | Red Dog, sorry the situation played out as it did. I agree with whoever said that the seller should have PM'd you. That would have been the proper procedure, IMO. I've also learned from this. I will adjust the permissions of the Parts Wanted forum to be the same as the other Buy/Sell forums. Only the author can respond to the thread. Anyone interested in buying/selling to the author must repspond privately (PM or email). Once the transaction has occurred, it is the thread's author's responsibility to post "SOLD", "BOUGHT", or "WITHDRAWN" in the thread.
Again sorry for the outcome.

Rebel,
I'm in total agreement. That is exactly how I would do it.
Thanks for all the replies.
